Montez, Geo and Caleb @ practice today

IMO, the fact that Montez is at an RU practice says a lot about him and Pike.
redWhat will he wear to the St. Johns scrimmage??
Yeah, it says he will let a guy back in the gym who walked out on him and the team.
CM kind of strange to see him with short hair. Used to the braids
Montez parting ways seemed mutual
He was being phased out. Had a horrible second half of the season and apparently had no hard feelings. Hardly “walking out”…unlike some more recent players .
Montez's twitter profile is him with his RU jersey. He's a Rutgers guy who played with an edge and never backed down on defense. Nothing wrong with looking for a better opportunity to get more playing time. Our slow style of offense in 2021 didn't suit his fast paced style of play. The parting was definitely mutual.
I rooted for him hard. Still did at SJU. But some of those head scratching drives in to a triple team, drove me crazy. Often. Nice to see him back and embraced.
That says it all, right? Jacob Young.. I missed.. Mathis.. not so much. Even though JY had similar tendencies.. he seemed to get better at sharing. You know what.. Mathis did too.. to a point.. but he'd get that "my turn to shoot" thing and just GO.
The Big Ten media interview on BTN of Pike, Mag and Cliff seemed to indicate a real commitment to spreading the ball around and doing it FAST. I love this plan. Hmmm.. you know.. maybe Mathis would have been a better fit THIS year.

Pictures like this make me even happier than usual to be a Rutgers fan. My family is full of typical NJ sports fans, mostly pro sports oriented. I could never get them to understand how rooting for alma mater (or even just your state school) could somehow be different and better. GO RU!
Montez was a big recruiting win for Pike early on. Didn't work out, but no hard feelings.
We tend to forget that - he was big get at the time that showed people we were heading in the right direction. Us fans who watched the early Pike teams could see it already, but the outside world hadn't.
I disagree with the sentiment that it didn't work out. Montez had some huge games for us and was an important part of the team for 3 seasons.
