Keep in mind Oscar is a veteran at this point. I think he's going to get more time than you guys think.

I feel the opposite about Griffiths. I'm no expert on his conditioning, but as we all know, it's a huge jump in games, travel, minutes and endurance from high school to college.

Have you been playing attention to the schedules of Harper and Bailey? They are flying around the country (and in Harper‘s case internationally), to Tournaments, All Star games and training camps where they play games 3 or 4 days consecutively, sometimes playing two games a day. Their 1 year of college is going to be a vacation for them before they hit the NBA.

It’s a weird take because I see Oskar’s value being in playing with Gavin. Despite his experience, Oskar isn’t coming in to help with D. That’s not his strength.

Oskar is coming in when we decide to go with a 4 shooter line up. Noah, Gavin, Hyatt, Oskar - maybe to break a zone in spot situations? I know our fans are hoping Chol fills that role but that (in contrast to the GG comparison) is where I’d bet on the incumbent until proven wrong.

I hope we go with a 5 shooter lineup - Noah, Gavin, Hyatt, Chol, Oskar - but I'm not holding my breath.

Oskar has a ton of competition for minutes at the 4. We know what he brings, maturity, great teammate, doesn't make many mistakes, good 3-point shooting, so-so D and rebounding.

Gavin is the only 3/SF on the roster AND he'll get minutes at the 2 as well. Not only is he a great fit with his skill and athleticism, but he's going to get tons of opportunities. He's in a great spot to succeed.

Someone has to be 12th man on the team (assuming J. Williams is out all year).

I would say it's more likely Oskar plays near zero minutes.

Jamichael Davis or Austin Williams is going to play a lot this year. Not sure which one but RU needs a 2 guard that can match up vs athletic guards. I would have said it will be Williams a few months ago but Davis really has impressed and could be the guy. Derek will play both PG and 2 but there will need to be a second guy.

The whole premise of a coaching staff is to maximize the productivity of what a player does or can do well, while finding minutes for other players, at the position or spots on the floor, where they also can do well.

If you remove Hyatt from the 4 spot, you lose a lot of shooting and rebounding capabilities. So while fans are trying to figure out why Hyatt would play at possibly the 2 or 3 (which are kinda the same to me), it comes down to defense/rebounding staying intact, without losing the scoring or threat of a shooter coming off the court (Hyatt).

This is really also more about Wolf and his improvements AND is also about the staff reducing the risk of what happens when Mag isn't on the floor. The goal is to find someone else beyond Mag and Caleb McConnell on this year's roster, who can defend. YES, Mag is back, but we cannot expect top level lateral quickness defense for 30+ minutes a game from him.

So there are tons of minutes and defensive possessions, where someone else other than Mag at the wing or 4, has to run, jump, be at the top of the press and play with quickness. Wolf is being groomed to play the Mag role, so we are not "Mag-reliant".

So lineups like Simpson or Fernandes, with Griffiths and Hyatt at 2 or 3 (depending on the opponent or matchup), with Woolfolk and Cliff....or Mag and Cliff, is probably more likely to happen than most lineup combinations.

Now, if Jeremiah Williams, was somehow granted a waiver and was eligible to play most of the season instead of missing half of this season, then this all goes out the window.

But Hyatt is going to play 26 to 32 minutes a game, unless there's a ton of fouls called on him. And that means playing at the 4, 3 and 2.

Woolfolk being slimmed down 20 pounds, means he is closer athletically to Mag before Mags injury. I think the staff sees Mag and Woolfolk as the 2 "must-have to play good defense", players that have to be on the court for 35 out of 40 minutes. Whether they split time at the 4 or if Woolfolk is at the 5 and Mag the 4, only gives is more defense and switching capabilities.

I think if Jeremiah Williams gets a waiver and plays all season long, this is a Sweet 16 type of roster. That's how talented and capable defensively, Williams can be, while providing significantly better offense than what we saw at PG last year.
I’m gonna pick up on the point of there being little difference between the 2 and 3. On RU’s offensive end, how do the roles of 2 and 3 differ? Does the two handle the ball more? Is the three a bit bigger and better rebounder? I’m thinking that’s 20th c. Thinking.

That take should be frozen and put in the back of the freezer to be thrown out in five years. Oskar is nowhere the talent of Gavin and will not see the court for most of the season. Great presence in the program though.

Yup - 2 and 3 are interchangeable offensively in many systems
They call the taller guy the 3, just because
