They were lazy 35 years ago as well. I know we avoided a strike during my time on the banks.

And how many diplomas, and the jobs they are a prerequisite to, are delayed? Don't the grads have a right to take their degree and earn a salary after completing a 4 year stretch?
It’s also a bad look for prospective students. High school seniors (including my son) are making their final decisions right now about where they want to attend next year.
public unions should be illegal as there is no justification for it with today's employment law on top of that, it's not in the best interests of the taxpayer
I had to smile and shake my head upon reading the first few paragraphs of the report. So there's a full-time faculty union, a part-timer faculty union, an administrative personnel union...is there a Dean's Union? Are the general undergraduate students unionized? Is the sentient AI in a union? Who isn't unionized over there? 
Apparently there are messages flying on the admissions FB page and lots of rumblings about people changing their minds
All in all , this strike is perfectly timed to cause maximum damage to the school
What troubles me is that the far left argues for tolerance and inclusion but scoffs at the teaching of the Bible as oppressive and dismisses it; intolerantly.
What troubles me is that far right claims that this should be a Christian nation, yet it tramples on the poor, pollutes God gift (our planet) and support the 45th president who cheats on his wife with pornstars and playboy bunnies.
A change of mind due to potential tuition increases brought about by satisfying union demands?
Does the university president have the power to declare the semester complete and issue a passing grade to students for all classes? It would take away some of the leverage as to the timing of the strike and maybe force everyone back to the table.
There is always common ground. Always. My post was not eloquently worded, but was posting from my phone in a sleep-induced state.
Religion should not be a political issue that divides this country. It should unite, and we should respect each other for their faith, even if that faith includes agnostics and atheists. A person's belief system is personal, and not something to be inflicted on and used to shame others.
There has been a pervasive and sickening taunting by the entertainment industry too that mocks Christians and Christianity. It was on full display at recent music awards shows. I don't follow or practice any organized religion. But I respect those that do, and I am always willing to listen to what works for others.

So are classes on or not? I am supposed to give a lecture at a seminar at the college of engineering Wednesday. Checking with the professor, but just wondering.

My son is at his engineering class as we speak.
I was a student employee, and was crapped on in all regards. All for my 17 hours a week at $5.50/hr. Couldn't even get a parking spot in the adjacent lot over the summer

If you don't like the job or the pay/benefits then move onto something else. Unions being in government, including a state supported school, is a conflict of interest when you have the majority party in NJ that is backed by the unions
No such thing as free market with a union. These people aren't working in coal mines any longer. Unions need to be gone.
Sports unions are not even close to the same thing. But they should be done away with too.
Tangentially, our society is pretty messed up when we say athletes should get all they can get, well into the millions, but teachers making 30k are considered overpaid. Wow, our priorities are off.
I know a bunch of cops who rail against labor unions and socialism yet enjoy their collectively bargained public pensions.

Best move of my life.Funny, I was just at an event at the SoE on Thursday - it was my first time in Richard Weeks Hall, and as a Bloustein Alum, I was quite jealous...
Was told by a professor this morning that "it likely won't last more than 2 or 3 days" and that it "shouldn't affect" research being performed for my agency... Hopefully thats the case and cooler heads prevail.
(Just for the record - I am usually one to support Unions and associated labor actions, but am definitely "on the fence" with this one and the RU Prof Unions as a whole)
Would a political party have a conflict of of interest if they were backed by businesses when it came to labor related bills they were voting on???

What's the problem? The football team went on strike years ago and remains a a conference outlier and where is the outrage. Poor coaching, poor recruiting, poor facilities, poor performance, Faculty decided to join them rather than fight them.

rampant inflation is to blame. People tend to spend near what they make no matter the level of income... wanting to afford the best lifestyle they have earned. Inflation puts pressures on their budgets. So they need/want more income. So, all these ridiculous spending bills in the last few years are to blame... imo, of course.

This is about professor’s who for the most part don’t teach. Grad assistants ? Why do they deserve more? Maybe the lazy *** profs should do more in class instructions . That would be a big surprise. In the long term students and future students will pay more for less. Do you think Murphy cares? It will get passed down ultimately to taxpayers. Nothing against pay increases but there are certainly other avenues this group could take.
The adjuncts and TAs are getting paid peanuts. Definitely not a living wage. They don’t receive benefits and they are teaching more and more courses. They do the same amount of work for a 1/4 of the payment. Not just RU, but all universities and colleges are taking advantage of the adjuncts snd TAs.
You've come to the wrong place to talk context. This folks on this board sing hosannas to the likes of the Southwest Airlines CEO - talk about ROI.
I understand that. I also saw demands regarding gentrification around New Brunswick and other bizarre things. Heard a grad student complain on WNYC today that she can't afford her Jersey City rent (she is paying it now though?) And teaches at RU-Newark. She could, ya know, move to Newark.
Anyway, I get the core demands, but they have not been articulated very well, and it seems there has been movement in that direction from the administration....what I heard so far has been a lot of identity political stuff directed at Holloway bc he is an African American studies guy, and pro-labor, and they are very disappointed he's not delivering.
Again, how far apart are they on the dollars and cents? Seems like a whole lot of ambiguous personality conflicts beyond that.
