I had one when I lived in Caldwell. Water came from under Essex fells. Super hard water. Totally worth getting. Water was slippery smooth after we did it. My dad installer mine since he can pipe fit and do that stuff. Requires a little maintenance. Need to put salt rock in this garbage can looking thing every once in a while. No idea if 4k is any good. The actual water softening equipment didn’t seem like much to me so it’s Prob a lot of labor cost in that number. Guy check is it sounds high bc I’m sure they can knock that out in a day.

Living here in NE Florida, our water is extremely hard (great for stouts & local craft breweries!). We swear by Kinetico. We have the resin & carbon tank system, recycles based on usage not a timer (low salt usage is the result), no electronics. First system installed just after we had the house built in 1997, lasted 22 years in the outside elements (system had to be installed on exterior of house). Highly recommend if it's an option in your area.

When we did ours a few years back we also had them install a purifier at the same time. Don’t remember the price but very much worth it.
