Couldn’t get into WBC due to Diaz injury. Loss still stings and probably will for entire season with a lot of “ what if we had Diaz”. “ what if he wasn’t injured “.
Team USA missed a few opportunities, and it seemed they did not understand the situation in the 7th inning. Turner was on 1st, and the next two batters never gave him a chance to steal second as both swung at the first pitch for outs to end the inning. Team USA never gave themselves a chance to tie the game. In the following inning, Japan allowed their guy to steal second in an attempt to score an insurance run. A more experienced coaching staff could manipulate several situations for more opportunities with better results.

I’ve criticized the WBC, but the tournament was improved this time. Could be so much better, but will save for another day.

How about checking out the pitching staff for the US team. The Ace of the staff, most accomplished pitcher is 41 year old Adam Wainwright.

I totally agree. Couldn't have cared less who won. My point is you can't take this event as being a serious event. Laughable that someone said it's going to be as big as the World Cup someday. It's a manufactured event to make TV $$ around the globe.

Who gives a **** that some pitchers sat out? It's tremendous baseball in March. It's a gift to baseball fans everywhere. You have to be outright obstinate not to admit that at this point. Every tournament is manufactured so I have no idea what that even means.
He is 23, so we will have to wait at least two years before he is wearing Met pinstripes.
It may not be as big as the World Cup today obviously. It may 20, 30, 50 years down the line. You never know, esp in other countries.

Only if the top players play from every country. The Premier League doesn't hold back their most important players. MLB teams did. Mostly pitchers who have huge contracts and are invaluable in the playoffs.

happens for a reason but it was still a great tournament. And that 21 YO Nicaraguan pitcher wouldn’t gotten signed after striking out 3 all stars. Or that Czech Plummer who struck out Ohtani. Or the other Japanese pitchers who held other teams in check.
My issue isn't if people did or didn't enjoy it. My point is you can't say it will be a World Cup type of event if the best don't play. You are giving me a very small example of pitchers with success but you would be a fool comparing them to the best that the MLB has.Hey,
Were you born a troglodyte or was it a skill you had to cultivate? Some of the best pitchers in the world certainly did play. Or was I hallucinating watching Ohtani, Darvish, Alcantara, Pressley, Diaz and many others....in fact the Mets fans were all crying about this tournament because the "best closer on earth" got injured, right? Most of the ones that sat out were Americans which everyone acknowedges is something that needs to change.

Wainwright is now injured and will start the season on the IL.
IMO teams would be very foolish to send their better pitchers to a tournament like this at this point in the season.
