Not a "bad" 66-60 loss, IMO

Weird game. If you had told me that, without Mag, and with Caleb 1-12 and Paul 1-4, we'd only lose 66-60, I would have told you you're nuts. But that's what we saw. Kind of a shame, especially with the bench stepping up with Oskar hitting 3 huge treys in the first half to keep it from being a blowout (we were down 14) and with Simpson getting 7 on 3-5 shooting and getting 3 boards.

Thought Cliff played well with 15/4 and I wish we would've gotten the ball to him more, while Cam finally shot decently (5-11/2-5) with 14/4/1 (and 3 steals, but 3 TOs) and Hyatt played ok with 9/4/2, but again, hard to overcome the terrible offensive games by Paul and especially Caleb, although both played pretty good defense, especially Caleb, who had 8 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block.

Wasn't that happy with the refs, not so much the 17-13 foul disparity, but the number of just bad calls, including the phantom charge on Cliff near the end and the terrible foul on PM in the first half, plus there was a blatant over the back by TJD late in the game. I still think IU was the better team, but this is a game where a few of those bad calls could've been the difference in a 6-point game and one that goes down to the wire.

But at the end of the day, only losing by 6 with such horrible offensive performances by Caleb and Paul and not having Mag - and against a very good IU team on the road, isn't the worst loss in the world. Let's see if we can do better against Illinois, but again, they're a very good team. We'll see.

Down your starting forward, horrific offensive game from Paul and Caleb, with a stretch of questionable calls, and you lose by six on the road to a hot team? I'll take it and hope our seniors find their shot next game.

Good post. Gotta accentuate the positive from this game: found out more about Oskar and Derek, team showed their grit and fought back, played great D in the second half. Indy was locked in in the first half and RU withstood it. Big props on that. Game was the beginning of the learning process as to how to play without Mag, so it was going to be a tough game for RU. On to Illini for a win.

its not a bad loss BUT its disappointing to see your seniors leaders all come empty and not just a little bit...really bad in the least 3 minutes. Defense continues to be great and lot of positives from bench.

Still we are competing for a bye and a high seed, it was a winnable game so I do not take any moral victory.

Thanks for saying it. We fought and sometimes the other team just makes more plays when it's closing time. Tough night at the line and missed a couple open shots down by 3.

Great post Numbers. Obviously not thrilled with tonight’s result, but we will be fine. Guys stepped up and competed to keep this game in play to the end. Let’s go after it at Illinois now.

Yes, there were some bad calls during the second half when Indiana didn't score for 8 minutes. That still doesn't excuse Caleb and Paul for their horrible play on offense. They really **** the bed tonight.

How quickly you forgot that Caleb and Paul won the MSU game for us.

I think they had tired legs from MSU game.

Reason for our loss: Our field goal percentage in the second half was awful.
Defense was excellent all game against a tough opponent.

Oh please. They're twenty something kids. They're in great condition. But they were horrible tonight. If Caleb had the good sense to just pass the ball to Cam, Andre or Palmquist, we may have won. Paul was open in the paint 4 separate times and didn't shoot. I love them both, but stop making excuses for them. They were really bad tonight and it had NOTHING to do with tired legs.

Credit to Indiana, TJD really, I thought they were better throughout. Not upset with the loss against a hot team at home, let's split this road trip now.

Not a bad loss. The opportunity was there but we didn't take it. I don't think anyone can be surprised due to our poor offense. They're going to be more games like this where we come up short despite holding the opponent to 65 or less points.

We did better playing at IU's pace in the 1H than we did playing at our pace in the second half. Not into morale victories at all but I do feel a little better about our prospects going forward without Mag than I did 3 hours ago. Also thought TJD abused Cliff most of the night on offensive end.

TJD is a monster, his offensive game is incredible, but RU contained IU on the defensive end the last 12 or so minutes. Need more from Paul, Caleb needs to do less on offense.

Hopefully the team gets more comfortable with the new rotation with Mag out.

True, but "not a bad loss" isn't the same to me as a "moral victory." Very disappointed in Paul and Caleb on offense, as I said, but gutting it out with good bench contributions to come back from 14 down and play this one almost to the wire against a very good team on the road is clearly not a "bad loss."

Give it a rest. Paul and Caleb didn’t have it offensively tonight. Most Big Ten teams do not win road games. We competed, showed grit, but we lost. Indiana is no cupcake. Move on.

Refs had zero impact on outcome. Calls were for most part right on.

A few bad minutes there for refs in 2nd half but overall had no impact. We got a LOT of calls our way too.

Reasons we lost were many - bad shooting by our leaders, many missed opportunities in second half, etc etc. refs waaaaaay down reason for loss

Paul dominated the entire second half of MSU. He did not shoot because he had no legs.

Poor Shooting = Tired Legs

I mean I feel pretty good to be honest. No Mag, Caleb and Paul didn't have their A game and we lose to Indiana in a game we could have had. Bodes well imo. Think we rest up, fix some things and take the Illini...

A positive... IU scored 66 points. Rutgers remains a perfect 8-0 in the B1G and 16-1 overall when holding an opponent to 65 points or less.

Rutgers won the game against Michigan State with Caleb and Paul having very good games but the team still only scored 61 points. Its the mediocre offense when the team wins or loses that leaves Rutgers with a very small margin for error. The bench players must step up because the starters aren't generating enough points. Its not for lack of effort but rather the lack of shooters on the roster.

I mean they probably flew into Indiana on Sunday after the Saturday game, then Monday off then game Tuesday. Didn’t get a lot of rest.
Awful start. Maybe Garden wasn’t such a good idea. Energy expended. Break up routine. Hours on both ends. Travel. Three games away from home. Pike, “It’s tough to win away from the RAC” Food for thought!!!
