I've come to the point where I really don't understand what basketball officials are watching.
Go to the 2:23 mark on the tape. How on God's green earth is that not a walk on MSU's #22??? Is there some kind of new "Eurostep" or something that I don't know about?

Refs are bad all over college basketball.
Chris Russo on his sirs show brought up some good points that many of these guys are older and work too many games with tons of travel.
They operate as independent contractors and there is no Union.

Literally everyone around me (at other end of court) as well as the entire RU bench was calling for it. Somehow 3 officials right there missed it though

I forget the players involved, but another particular play had an MSU defender leapt and landed on the RU ball handler who was called for the travel.

Yep, that's a walk, but the worst was Cliff not being called for hacking an MSU guy (Hoggard?) on a drive and made basket in the first half, which the announcers called out. There was also a bad foul called on Hyatt as he was getting a rebound, which looked clean. There are always some errors by human officials in games, but I'll take 23-16 (fouls) and 34-14 (FTs) in our favor every day of the week from the refs (although a bit of that was them fouling at the end). Thought it was a well officiated game, overall.

Not saying that the whistles weren't fair today. If Cliff did this move instead of a MSU player I still would point it out. It was such an obvious call.

To me if there was a critical call if was the Terry "trip" on Mulcahy which sent him to the line. Trip is in quotation marks for a reason.

people forget this is entertainment. a product. refs never call everything and most times will swallow the whistle on a highlight play. reffing is an art. worst call i saw today was a blatant TJD travel and swim move late against Purdue.

different player at different point of game that gets the whistle every time

Izzo got in the refs ear after Cliff’s no call and the make up touch foul ensued on the following possession. Seemed like the bad reffing was overall in RU favors today but there were some bad misses. The goaltend, Hyatt over the back, PM’s travel while being tackled……

I thought the officiating was totally fine today. I felt they disrupted the flow of the game a bit with some ticky tack fouls, but it was evenly called (ultimately all I care about).

The foul on Cam trying to fight through a screen had me baffled. Like let that go bro

It also has to do with the way the players play the game. Let’s be real, the refs don’t want to call that all of the time. Yes, that’s an egregious walk, but the players really need to clean it up too

Overall thought it evened out but that was a terrible missed call and how about the foul on Hyatt for grabbing a rebound with position and the MSU defender sticks his arm in and gets tangled. That was backwards.

That was a trip. They showed it in the replay. It’s an unlucky foul but it gets called 90% of the time.

Yep there was a stretch there where the whistle was against us but more than evened out I think.
Kinda disagree. MSU just as aggressive as us and we were in bonus far before them. Paul got hacked and no call.

I think MSU purposely following skewered the stats.

You can jump stop and land on two feet (including the pivot foot touching down for a second time that usually means a walk) as long as you either immediately shoot or pass the ball. The passing player lands on two feet and passes the ball. The shooter lands on two feet but gathers himself for a beat. That is close but waiting a tic should make it traveling. A judgment call that the refs saw and did not whistle. Not egregious, but incorrect.

Of course this is one (like an NFL catch) where slo mo distorts the action. Looks like he holds the ball long enough for me to take a bathroom break when it was really just a split second too long.

Who's in the bonus first is just timing. Was still 18-16 in fouls at the 1:47 mark when they started fouling on purpose, leading to the final 23-16 foul count. So in our favor before their fouling. And the most egregious missed foul call was on Cliff in the first half, where he hammered the MSU guy - would've been his 2nd iirc.
