Apparently my point wasn't all that obvious because you aren't getting it. I addressed a fan's perspective in my prior post. I'll say it a bit differently...

A fan gains nothing whatsoever by forming an expectation about winning. It's a valueless proposition, unless that fan is betting on the game. It merely sets up the fan for even greater disappointment if the team loses.

Being fanatical about a team one roots for doesn't mean one has to abandon logic and common sense. Low expectations, at least for stuff outside one's control, is a critical factor in always being happy.
That’s simply your opinion.

im just sayin...never just think wins are automatic...this teams seems different but still has many players from last years debacle
Nothing is ever automatic. Ask Iowa. But this is probably as close to automatic as Rutgers has ever had in conference play over the last 20 years.

Looking forward to a relentless full court press to start off the game and ensure that the team doesn’t come out flat.

I agree.

Even the best teams lose some games they should, on paper, win. Purdue lost to us, for example.

Rarely makes sense to underestimate an opponent in any kind of competition. From a player standpoint, it's a great way to lose a game you should win. From a fans standpoint, it's a great way to set oneself up for frustration.
Pretty insulting to try to use Rutgers beating Purdue as any type of analogy to Minnesota beating Rutgers

Garcia can play. Top 50 player and Pike wanted him. Minnesota will have a shot if he can go.

Gophers are awful------RU will have no trouble in this one.
You have to come out strong and fast from the start
A lot of fans thought we would coast to victory against the Hall, who, at the time seemed like it should be a win for us
We never got far enough ahead to discourage them and they gutted it out

Which can be a bad approach if the team has that mindset

Even if Garcia plays he's not going to be 100%. I almost prefer that to a healthy bench player going. We better roll tonight.

while this is great news since these two guys provide alot for them the reality is they had 6 players last year and we lost
Reality is last year was a different team and has 0 influence on tonight’s game. We play the games for a reason though.

as it turns out, Seton Hall is actually good and that game was never better than a 60-40 proposition.

Well, since you already feel insulted, I won't hesitate to rub salt in the wound and point out that you misinterpreted my post. 😃

On paper, Purdue should have beat us. On paper, we should beat Minnesota. I wasn't making an analogy between the two things. I was merely listing the one as a recent example of a game where the team that should have won, on paper, didn't win.

Any analogy, especially one that involves relative degrees of superiority between the teams competing, is something you formed on your own, by inference. I neither expressed nor intended any such analogy.

For some reason, the closer we get to tipoff, the sicker I feel about this game. I don't think I'll be able to watch. I would rather watch us play Kansas or Gonzaga on the road than watch us play as big favorites at home. Something about it makes me so damn nervous.
1)Yes, the Hall was better than we thought, which is why I worded it "at the time" we thought it should be a win, etc

Even if the Hall is not a good team, the team might get up for their instate rival and play better than up to that point, and the reverse can be true

As a fan I don't care about the Hall game as much as I used to

2) As far as the Minny game, the way I see it, If we are to be a true NCAA single digit team, we should win this game, no question...... IF we do not, there would be plenty of blame to go around, and you could begin to question where the team and program is at, at this point.

Lets hope the team is not over confident, play it like you think they are a tops 20 team

I'm nervous, these kinda games scare me too. I'll be there tonight screaming, everyone have some drinks before and have the place be rocking, no reason the students shouldn't be crazy tonight.

It's a terrible way for the team to think, agreed. They took care of business vs. the cupcakes this year though so hopefully they have not and will not fall into that kind of thinking.

Many years ago, the NIT tourney tried to spoon feed us easy early round teams, in the hopes that we would make the final four at the garden....and then the attendance for that would be decent

we had a home game against Yale, I believe, and our coach was trying stress this and that in practice before, when one of our players said something like
("come on coach, its Yale!)

and, then we proceeded to lose

I am sure the attitude is a bit more resolved, even more so when it is a big ten team, and all big ten teams have talent

my senior year....ugh....that was the worst. Part of the problem was that the team really had NCAA tourney potential and maybe the team just didn't care that much about the game. I think we had wins over 4 or 5 ranked teams at the RAC that year. We lost to an awful Virgnia Tech team on the road and a mediocre BC in the BET. Win those two and get to 20 and maybe we sneak in.

Agree with this. While I don't think the team took a good Yale team seriously enough, I think they mentally checked out after closing the season on a down note and not getting an NCAA bid.

This is the most important remaining game on the schedule. Minnesota NET is sub-150 (maybe sub-200?). No other single game in isolation will impact our NET and tournament chances like this one (unless of course we’re in a win and in situation at the end of the year).

We are favored by 15 tonight. That is just 0.5 points less than we were favored by against Rider and 1.5 points more than we were against UMass Lowell.

Still nervous!! After we went up 18-7 I was hoping for a 20 point halftime lead. 10 points is eh minimally acceptable lol
