Gundy is always open to hiring guys from the lower levels.

There's been a lot of turnover at Alabama over the years. Doesn't seem to affect the product on the field, though. For sure. I was serious. If not as OC, go there as an analyst for a rehab assignment as an analyst.
Sarkisian went back as an analyst first, and came back as OC in 2021.
Butch Jones went there before going on to be a HC at Arkansas State. He is not doing so well.
Mike Stoops stopped there before becoming a DC at FAU
Major Applewhite pit stopped at 'bama before becoming OC at South Alabama
Charlie Strong did a stint, now co-DC at Miami
Lane Kiffin
Interesting thing is most of these coaches are older. Wonder if a younger guy like Gleeson would consider doing this to get his career back on track. He may be content collecting his paycheck and may wish to stay local at Princeton or somewhere else instead of trying to make it as a big time coordinator.
Harbaugh has a big influence on the offense at Michigan and he was co-OC with Lockley at Alabama and all their talent. Miami was probably the first chance for him to show his stuff and it went badly. Lashlee did better with the same players before he left to SMU.Josh’s ship may have sailed.

I figure because of his prior relationship with Locksley and Maryland looking for an OC he could land there but who knows.
Saban looking at UW’s Ryan Grubb. He’s been bumped to 2M per year recently. More than money though, working for Saban can set you up nicely for a HC spot.
I didn't think Rees was that special an OC but with the additional talent at Alabama, he might look good. Coordinator spots at Alabama can often lead to HC spots. Big OC decision coming up for Freeman.
Well Saban is smarter than me lol and Locksley did fine there too. All the talent to work with can help make him look good and get him a HC spot so can't blame him for trying to move up the ladder.Seems light on experience. 30 years old. Moved from QB coach to OC in 3 years at Notre Dame. He will face his old coach and boss Brian Kelly at LSU.
Saw on Rees' Wikipedia page, he had an incident with alcohol. Just goes to show, youthful transgressions can be overcome. Newsflash- young people do stupid things and get caught sometimes. (coming from a guy who never got caught!).Well Saban is smarter than me lol and Locksley did fine there too. edit: Kelly tried to bring him to LSU too, so regardless of what I see, two very smart successful coaches wanted him.

I think Kelly was like that when he got to ND but I feel like he changed and adapted philosophy during his tenure, especially after that bad season. I thought he tried to be more physical and run more as his tenure went on.The pay is obviously much better. But there were also some grumblings that Rees and Freeman didn't see eye to eye on some things offensively. I think Freeman wanted to run more especially with the QBs they had whereas Rees is from the Brian Kelly tree and they love their passing game.
The situation overall was slightly weird. When Kelly bolted, Swarbrick, the AD, apparently hired (or persuaded is probably a better term) Rees to stay on as OC before even hiring Freeman. So instead of allowing Freeman to pick his own OC, Swarbrick apparently did it.

Pay is probably better but I’m sure LSU was offering a good deal too but he stayed anyway. I think being a Saban coordinator is the real lure because it’s shown to be a great stepping stone to a HC spot.
Any rumors on names Freeman will be looking at as OC?
I could see that with Moorhead. Sean Lewis left the Kent State HC spot to be OC at Colorado. It would probably depend on how well Freeman and Moorhead mesh in philosophy. Here and there they tried to run more but they still were relatively pass centric. We were never a truly dominant run team. Kelly's/Rees' teams typically struggled running the ball against upper level teams with a few exceptions.
The one that is floating around is Akron HC Joe Moorhead. Sure, why would a HC leave for an OC gig but the rumor is he thinks being OC at ND is more likely to project him back to a bigger head gig than being the head coach at Akron. So who knows where they will go.
There's a lot of moving parts here. They picked up Sam Hartman as a transfer and Rees offense was supposed to be a fit for him. Another name mentioned is the Wake Forest OC, Ruggiero. Obviously he and Hartman would know each other well.
Now that McNulty has "some" analyst experience at Nick Saban's rehab for coordinators clinic, does he have a shot at the job? He did coach TEs at ND under Brian Kelly. Don't tell @NickRU714 I asked this question.
I'm not a betting guy, but may put a wager on Alabama finishing out of the top 15 next year.OC McNulty....

Kevin Sumlin expected to be co-OC at Maryland. First assistant coach position for him since 2007.

Qb coach and OC usually are the same person. Maybe an internal promotion for Freeman with GG alongside that person.
