What is the current process for students to get tix?

Can a student or anyone with info spill the beans. Saw the pics of the lines hours beforehand and wondering if this is the only time students can get tickets. Lol it was 30 years ago but we used to have to gather everyones ids once a month if you wanted to sit together and wait in a huge line at the RAC for the tickets for the upcoming month. These were tix with assigned seats. If you didnt get them that first day often you were relegated to the 300 level. I know that during the height of the 88-93 era that more students attended games then they do now. I know through the 90s and 2000s they streamlined the process, no more assigned seats and tickets could be picked up a different locations. So now in the digital age, is it first come first serve? Is this to make sure that students dont gobble up tix and then decide not to come. Would seem there has to be a better way and god forbid they actually give them a physical ticket right?

Would we make the students wait in a 2 hour line if it was raining?

Sounds great to me! Pay cheaply for the whole season or get there early to hopefully get in the games you want. Game day does ensure people in the seats!

Student tickets are distributed at the RAC starting 2 hours before tip off. If students purchased a football/basketball combo season ticket, they get early access to basketball tickets (not sure how early). There might be another process for early access for Riot Squad members.

Not sure about this year, but last year you could buy a student season ticket for like $50 - guaranteed entry. IIRC there was also a "lottery" at the beginning of the season (or maybe every few weeks throughout the season) where students could claim tickets for free, which of course went like hotcakes. Students waiting on-line were those hoping to still score a ticket.

Not sure if this is still exactly the case from the above post and my memory might be a bit off - but all you guys complaining about "were there any students who couldn't get in", while yeah in a perfect world any student who wants to get in shouldn't be shut out, they've also likely had plenty of chances to get tickets if they really want to be there. Further, this is how you build "demand" - create an air of exclusivity.

So is your problem that there is no early access or that there are no physical tickets? I'm confused. You get your ticket two hours in advance because they know if you're going to get in line that close to the game, you're going to go to the game.

If you get tickets a month in advance, there's a higher chance that you'll find an excuse not to go to the game thereby leaving empty seats. Whether it's a physical ticket or not makes no difference.

Last year you could claim your student ticket online. The tickets would be released at random times. So you just kinda had to be ready for the email, because they would sell out within minutes. The site often times had trouble, maybe because of all the students logging in at the same time.

Now, 2 hours before tip off, they open the booth up, and you show your RUID and get a physical ticket.

However, in the past even if online the site was saying all the tickets were sold out. You could still go early and try getting a free ticket in person.

My kid (frosh) did the season ticket combo with football to get priority for the basketball tix. I think he went to 2 football games but has gone to almost every basketball game.

I remember the collection of IDs on our floor and getting a bunch of tickets for multiple games. We would decide later whether we could make it, this just gave us a free option. Given how hot the tickets are with this team, that no longer makes sense.

Thanks, this pretty much confirms my memory of last year. There was also the student season ticket option which I took advantage of, last year it guaranteed access, this year I guess just "priority" which makes sense given the demand.

Unfortunately, there were still a number of games I missed last year due to an evening class - so is life.

You are concerned about students waiting in line? Really weird - lines are good for the program and kids like that kind of excitement. Find something else to complain about - your list is seemingly endless.

I have the student combo which was worth it. It got me season football tickets, free food before the game, and it also allows to claim a ticket to a game a couple weeks in advance. It’s convenient for me but they definitely need to fix the system for those who buy tickets by game.

I had one of my sons go to Wisconsin and another to Maryland - both with much larger student sections. But, I like the way Maryland does it. There are some student season tickets available in a pre-season lottery. The rest (majority) of the student tickets are also meted out by lottery on a game-by-game basis, but students who go to the crappy OOC games and swipe their ID get higher priority in the lottery for the best conference games. In contrast, Wisconsin student tickets were almost all done in a pre-season lottery and there were bots and buying co-ops that bought up a majority of the tickets and then scalped them back to students. That was a few years ago when Wisconsin was a very hot ticket, but it seemed like a broken system and my son never got student tickets without having to pay handsomely for them.

Wisconsin and Maryland have larger arenas than Rutgers thus there are more seats available for students.The RAC is a facility that needs a serious upgrade in additional seating,rest rooms ,concession stands and a entrance facade.Recent team success has resulted in sellout crowds and the lack of additional seating for the public and students.The demand is greater than the RAC can handle.Football recruits attending basketball games will remain a point of controversy but football will always be the most important sport from the B1G Ten perspective.The fact the football program stinks right now is a coaching and recruiting problem that requires immediate attention because attendance and donor support will be impacted.

We nearly got trampled to death in the line for Louisville in 2006 so im not surprised it hasn't gotten much better

I'm probably in the minority here, but as "cool" as the story was about the Duke students having to camp out to get into the games, I always thought it was stupid. Could get sick, miss class or whatever. One time maybe, but to have to do it all the time?

Can you imagine yesterday if a student went up to his professor and said, I have to leave the class(not that there are so many students having class at 4pm) to go stand in line to get into the game?

In my day one student could bring 4 IDs for hoops tickets and 20 for football to the RAC ticket office to pick up physical game tickets in advance. So for hoops I would usually grab 2-3 friends and 12-15 IDs then hop on the bus to the Rock (Livingston) and grab the tickets. About 5 or 6 of us would actually go to the games so I would sell the extras for a few bucks to one of the parking lot scalpers … with the scalping $ we would drink for free at the pub after the game! We had it good

That’s how I became a lifetime season tix holder. I won Season Tix behind RU hoops bench. I was basically in the huddle and Tom Young recognized us. This was before teams did the whole team on the court with chairs during time outs. We knew the play as soon as the players did. Basketball education and Tom Young was truly a great game day coach. Just wish he had hired a big time recruiter like Vitale. Still good eye for talent, John Battle and Roy Hinson. But losing recruits to Maryland. Losing John Hemple to UMass. (What was JH thinking?) and the whole Rodney Duncan saga?

I don't remember an online option or lottery.
We would go to the RAC monthly and get tickets for the next couple of games - or whatever the distribution schedule was.
Or just show ID at the door on game day.
There was no assigned seats. Maybe the tickets had seats but nobody actually abided by them.
I'll have to ask my RU roommate and see if he remembers.

For the NIT Semi-Finals/Finals - yes students had to skip class, sit on the floor of the RAC lobby and wait for the ticket booth to open to get student tickets. Sat out there twice. I don't know if anyone was waiting outside - I remember being inside.
Don't remember anyone really caring about missing a class or two.

Every student has the option, before the season , to get the “season pass “….which is a season ticket for football and priority to get basketball tickets on claim before they go to the entire student body …for $120

My son got the game from earlier in the year thsr his classes don’t conflict with the early claim .

Given that a fat cat is $11 or so…this isn’t a bad deal at all.

After this step , the tickets go to claim under the policy that is pretty much the same as what is written above

Those that bought combo tickets the first week of classes for about $130 had their tickets logged on last week -- they simply got an email to claim the tickets. Almost similar to the season ticket holder process
