But this is a job with the Fruites , so it became a any port in the storm situation.

Got his feet wet coaching & then some at Rutgers, the typical pattern working or playing under the thumb of GS is your held back creatively , basically your wings are clipped, and once you leave you flourish .

I know…quite hysterical. He was fired from here and they took our scraps. They didn’t steal ****!

That being said thought he was a good guy and I wish him well and hope he succeeds going forward…

Was he really 'let go from Rutgers'? I assumed it was a case of 'you're not getting the OC job permanently' and he didn't want to accept the demotion, no? I mean, he probably could have stayed on and coached TEs or something for Rutgers...and not had to move to god awful Syracuse....so this seems like an epic fail to me.

The thing is I like Nunz. I think he is good teacher/coach. But when a high school coach is "hired" at this level. He is not hired to "recruit." He is hired to deliver players. Nunz and Augie did not "deliver" the intended targets.

True, outwardly, they'll whine about being forced to take RUFB coaching refuse.

But inwardly, they'll take a momentary break from their winter-long internet porn session (what else ya gonna do up in the polar extremes?) and celebrate with a quick trip to Dino BBQ. They'll have to follow a snowplow to make it to town. But they're good at that.

It is, indeed, a God forsaken place.

And Dino is f*ckin' awful. I did a gig in Rochester, decades ago, and those people wouldn't shut up about it. I let them take me one night and it was bad beyond description. And the entire throng of co-eds hanging out at the bar were 4s or less.

My dead grandmother could recruit well at Alabama. On the contrary, a great recruiter will struggle to recruit at a school with a difficult head coach. The greatest recruiter in college football probably couldn't get great offense recruits to play under Schiano.

I like Dino, although I haven't been to the actual restaurant in probably close to 20 years now. I do regularly order a couple of their BBQ sauces, though.

I was always with the wife and kids (and the wife's dad) when going there. So I always tried my best to avoid focusing too much on the coeds. Also, because we always visiting in the winter, and it being vaguely adjacent to the North Pole, everybody was always bundled up in Arctic expedition gear. So scoping out the local womenfolk would've been a pointless exercise except, perhaps, for folks with The North Face gear fetishes. 😃

Yeah, I don't get the hype about Dino. I thought it was very meh at best (I've had it in Syracuse and NYC and wasn't at all impressed by either), and that was before I visited Texas the next year. After going to Texas and NYC and NJ area stepping up their game over the last couple of decades, Dino is at the bottom of the list alongside Famous Dave's, Dallas BBQ, and other bad chain BBQs scattered throughout our region. Once Hill Country, Mighty Quinns, Hometown, Mable's, Fette Sau, Pig Beach showed up in NYC; and Boss Hog, Red White & Que, Kimchi Smoke, Mighty Quinn's showed up in NJ (And Big Ed's Ribs are the best in the business alongside Boss Hog's) - Dinosaur is extinct.

The BBQ place in downtown New Brunswick, where a lot of Coach Flood shows were filmed, was god-awful. Famous Dave's in Edison was a step up from that, not awful, not great. The times I was at Dino in Syracuse, it was way better than either of those two places. Honestly, it was really great.

But again, that was quite some time ago and stuff changes.

I had the Famous Dave's on 22 like 30 years ago and thought it was awful, it was my first ever time having "BBQ"... Wasn't until I tried the Big Ed's Rutgers location that I started appreciating the cuisine. When I had Dinosaur, I was very underwhelmed especially after all the hype.

Never had Ed's, but will venture in and give it try one of these days.

Big Ed’s is amazing! Used to work around the corner they had a weekday lunch special $20.99 all you can eat ribs, came with a big salad and bread. Last time I was there was pre pandemic and the price for the weekday special was 25.99. I may have to stop in there sometime to see what the latest price is but the ribs are always top notch.
I am only surprised when big Ed’s expanded to two other locations they couldn’t make it work.

Heard this when he left for Michigan…but every stop he lands stud NJ recruits so I don’t know if these burned bridges really matter…

Also funny how this thread devolved in a BBQ discussion…
