Ron was an All American - one of the Top 20 players in America. It would've been coaching malpractice to not try to get him the rock as much as possible. Of course we have to play differently now and everyone needs to be more connected. I'm sure it's more fun for the rest of the guys to get more touches. Everyone wants to contribute as much as possible.

Plays were built around Geo and Ron last year. Less so person specific this year. Pike’s strategy is lock down defense and go with hot hands. Boy if Audre and Mag play like this consistently, we will be a tough out. Lot to like about tonight beyond those 2–. Got Cliff the ball more than we have been, Paul backing his man down returned, Pike sitting Cam will payoff, Mag becoming good with assists, and some good rebounding and win by 20 with only 4 threes.

He deserves his due l. Good to see him get the feature. Gotta feel great to him.
My only problem with hyatt is when he struggles with the put backs . He must have missed about 20 so far. Sometimes he struggles when he is within two feet of the basket. Otherwise love his game.

This plus Ron and Geo went out of their way to get others involved early in many games and it just did not click. We lost some games because of that effort but as the season went in Paul got better and Cliff got better. Now we don’t have 2 stars who can create for themselves off the dribble so we rely on Defense and ball movement.

Drama queens aside I liked that interview by Andre. He was very polite and talked about how his coaches and teammates helped keep his confidence up. Being one of two guys we count on to score is a lot of pressure but this kid can score. He set up Cam for his 3 then Cam missed him wide open next posession but Cam did get fouled driving. Earlier in the year Andre was pushing to score and missed wide open players. Now he is letting the shots come to him and he played a great second half. Cam will stop pressing too and you can’t keep a great shooter like that down for too long if others hit their shots. Funk was face guarding Cam most of the game. That’s frustrating to play against.

I think there is no doubt Ron would not be the reason for angst, if there is any at all.
The offense was actually more efficient last season.. it went through Geo and (especially) Ron for a reason. Defense is where all the improvement lies.
When we started winning late in the year the offense started shifting from running through Ron and Geo to Ron and Paul/Cliff pnr.

He said this team is connected and everyone touches the ball.
touches everyone until it gets to him, which he shoots within 1-2 seconds.

100% difference maker! good and bad

when he makes, such huge boost to the team. when he misses, he seems to really miss it at the critical moment of the game, where he needs to be more careful with his shot selection

Every team is different. The team played thru Ron and Geo last year. That was by design. But it can cause the rest of the team to lose focus and not be ready when needed. This years team doesn’t have a go to guy. That works really well in the regular season. I hope it also translates to tournament time. I think it will because RU will have an inside/outside game and a clear floor general.

Every year is different. Agree would have been absurd not to focus on Ron and Geo last year. End of story re last year.

That NECESSARY focus meant that other guys got less touches last year or PT so they like this year better. It's a completely self interested statement and is not bad or good, just from one considered point of view. Pike has focused last year and this year where the focus needed to be. No more of it should be made than that.

I've heard Steve Kerr talk about not wanting to run too much PnR because when the other guys aren't involved in the offense, their energy in all the other aspects of the game suffers. Not a dig at any player, more paying attention to human nature.

The key is finding the balance. I trust Pike to always be looking for that, but I still wish he'd have Cam and Paul shoot more :)
