Is this the dreaded swoon after getting ranked?

I hope not. We still don't have the talent to win on "off" nights. No reason to lose this game. MSU couldn't put us away until late despite hitting 3s all over the court while we were throwing up bricks everywhere. Game was totally there for the taking. We just didn't want it very bad as we kept pissing away the dozens of opportunities we had to step on their throats.

So disappointing. Spencer looked like he did vs Miami and Temple - bad.

Hopefully all the glowing press hasn't gone to their heads.

FWIW, we entered the AP poll for the first time since 1979 on Jan 20, 2020 at #24. We lost our next game by 5 points. It was a road game against #19 Iowa that we weren't expected to win.

We were ranked preseason in 2020-21 and won 6 games in a row to start the season. We were ranked for 7 weeks in a row before we went on the bad run. We entered again on Feb 8 at #25 and again lost our next game, this time a road game against #15 Iowa that once again we weren't expected to win.

We did not enter the polls again until this week.

The ranked swooning thing is purely made up.

We just beat OSU last game shooting 34% FG and 25% from 3

Our defense is so elite the margin of error is bigger than people think. We can shoot pretty poorly and still win games

Rutgers will be a Tournament team as far as eye can see, and maybe even a Final 4/championship contender over next 6 or so years. What exactly do you want?

Ironically it will probably be a road win at Iowa that puts us back into the rankings..

I never put much stock in the conference title talk and I didn't expect to end the season ranked. You can't sing a conference with one possession wins. Too much luck. Too many things can go wrong. 12 wins should be the realistic target
