I think he makes a lot of frosh mistakes, including:

1. Shooting 3's and not converting... (not just this game: MSU)
2. Losing the handle (TO's)

But do like his speed and drive to the hoop - He's made some pretty shots with that move.

Hoping he bounces back and has a game like Indy.

It's difficult for any freshman in this league, once he gets a lot of minutes next year and knows he's not about to get pulled, he'll be fine

he is a freshmen not ready for more than less than 10 minutes a game, nothing wrong with that. Give the kid time, I think some of the press clippings were hyping him beyond his capabilities as a freshmen

He will be better next year
Simpson is one of the few players that can create and make shots off the dribble.I think his performance will improve next season .

Alot of frosh mistakes? Simpson had 1 turnover but seniors Paul and Caleb each had 4. The team shot under 35% but Simpson was 50%. Simpson wasn't the issue tonight.

Wrote this before John Battle scored 2 points a game as a frosh and 3 years later in NBA. I can't imagine what the internet would have said if they had it 39 years ago. Freshman make mistakes. Al McGuire, best thing about a freshman he becomes a sophomore.

Not talking tonight. I think Simpson is quick. fast, and should use that skill to help set up his teammates. His ready shoot aim approach isn't working.

He will make one baseline drive to the hoop basket each game, which catches the defense
by surprise, not ready for his quickness

I have said before, I think he wants to do great things, he shoots more than I would like for a
newbie guard in a tough atmosphere, sometimes...... today not so much

Ball starts going in -- we'll like him a lot; everything else he does is fine; And that drive and difficult lay-in (when everybody else was standing around) against OSU in the 2nd half was a big momentum play.

its fair but again he is a frosh, remember how bad Young was when he first came.
Yeah exactly. I'm not writing off his career but we shouldn't be counting on him for anything more than a bucket or two a game this year.

I have watched college bb for forty years. I don't kill frosh. Does the kid work hard ? Roy Hinson went to big man camps to get better. Never kill freshman. Eugene also was a soccer player before he got serious about basketball.

Battle didn't set the world on fire as a soph either. Then, I noticed a change in his muscular definition and his game took off.

Brunson and Ellerbe we're both still there. 2nd year you could tell Battle could play.

Some posters just always look for negatives. Derrick is a freshman. He is averaging 6 and a half points a game. No one is perfect but he is a player. He has a bright future. Many of our posters signal out players every time we lose a game. Give the guys a break. They are student athletes. Many on here probably never even participated in a NCAA sport.

so when i went back...shockingly Derek took 3 consecutive shots in crunch time when the game was 6-8 points, made the layup to cut it to 6, missed the next one and then took a 3

during this time. Paul was on the bench and after this series the game was effectively over. Why on earth he is the main option at a crucial moment is beyond me.
