Traveling Call

I have been involved in basketball for nearly 60 years and I don't think that I've seen that call more than 2 or 3 times in all those years.
In my nearly four decades as an official I don't think that I've ever made that call.
At that point in the game that's an official who just wants to show everyone that he knows one of the most obscure rules.

I have no problem with the call. We are all told that you cant move on an inbounds play unless it’s after a made basket. I’ve actually never read the rule itself, but i have understood it and have always abided by it.

Baloney. The defensive player should have been forced to give him 3 feet. Similar thing happened when Mulcahy blew an inbounds last year... a defender literally jump out of bounds to block his path to a player which forced the time to get too tight for 5 seconds which resulted in a turnover and a LOSS.

This was similar, but not as bad. McConnel got his 3 feet by taking a step.. he wasn't tunning the baseline or anything like that. Awful call.

You have to be kidding. Have seen it called many times, because it's traveling. Open shut case. Bonehead play by Caleb, who had a good game until the end with that and the shot clock violation.

If only that same official decided to demonstrate that he knows how the player out of bounds rule works against Ohio State.

All he has to do is throw the ball over edeys head to anywhere under our basket. He could’ve just thrown it right at edey, let him catch it, it’s over. Literally anything except a foul or a dead ball turnover.

This.. I can agree with.. the refs were awful in the first half and Purdue ended up with 28 FTs to our 11. Making 10 more and us.. made 8 more than we attempted. The first 2 charge calls were awful. As was the last. I think 2 were fair.. I think that's all teh charge calls. that's 3 turnovers given to Purdue for no good reason. I think we got beneficial blown calls twice. But the blown calls in Purdues favor went way beyond the 3 bogus charge calls. As an example, you have the last blocking foul on McConnel.. played great D and the Purdue player steps on his foot while traveling. An insane call to make.

In general, the refs did a much better job in the 2nd half... but we had to beat the refs AND Purdue.

That much is true. But he should not have HAD to ask. The ref should have made room. The ref set up that call then called it. They were advising Calebn all night on not "showing them up". Those refs deserved to be "shown up" after that first half.

the rule is that the inbounder cannot take steps out of bounds when throwing it in, unless after a made basket.

had we lost the game solely on that, I would blame only Caleb

in regards to the shot clock violation, he then he shot the ball into the basket easily .. we could have used that basket desperately, assuming he hit it before the play stoppage

I thought the official was not going to call it until the Purdue bench made him aware of it. Not disputing whether it was the right call but rather whether the ref noticed it right away.

This call was fine. The last blocking foul on Caleb was a horrible call. It’s also unfortunate he picked up that early tech because it changed Caleb’s intensity on defense later in the game playing in foul trouble.

I think that’s what he was trying to do. He also could have got it off his body. Any number of things. Except what he did.

Was going to say this. You don't see that call because players know not to do it. You rarely see players shooting at their own basket, either.
