I get it. Beat Bucknell and Coppin State first, but that will certainly happen. Coppin State is really bad. Bucknell is not going to Lafayette Rutgers. On to my point. Rutgers can beat Purdue. Most certainly would at home. Purdue has no guards and I will always undersell Painter after last season. They were as talented as the old UCLA teams last November and as talented as Cornell in March, when it counted. In addition Rutgers should definitely finish in the top 5 of the Big Ten. There are some bad teams and very pedestrian teams and teams like Illinois with internal issues.I don't see a Big Ten team getting to the Elite 8. This is no indictment of Rutgers. It is of the rest of the league. On another front, there are internal discussions taking place about the Jimmy V and it looks like 2024-5 for the RAC renovations and some tell me after the Schiano new facility is completed.

Can you shed light on your comment about a big bball booster stepping up? Is it recruiting related or facilities?

Pike definitely deserves more than Schiano at this juncture, but Pike already has a brand new practice facility and Schiano does not. And, revenue wise, football still drives the bus.
And contractually, under GS's contract and the Jersey Mikes/Rutgers contract, the deadlines to complete the football facility and the RAC renovations demand that the football facility be completed first. I think GS technically has the right to walk if the football facility isn't in progress (or maybe even completed?) by 2025 or something, whereas Jersey Mike's gave Rutgers until 2028 to complete the RAC renovations.

Do I actually think GS would walk in 2025? No, especially in light of his recent, public comments about how NIL is really front and center now, so even he realizes that the football facility is not as important as keeping our current players with NIL.

But, from a purely technical contractual standpoint, the football facility has to take priority over the RAC renovations.

Not many would have said UNC would have made it to the title game back in late February. No one would have St. Peter's making a run. March Madness is called March Madness for a reason.

For us finishing definitely in the top 5....I definitely hope we do and our defense has been elite you still have to score. We still have a bunch of issues to solve.

Until proven otherwise I see 12 candidates to make it to the Elite 8 out of the B1G

Purdue is seen as the best team in the B1G, but they have flaws. Rutgers can take advantage of them if they play with the focus they had against WF. Rutgers can beat any team in the B1G, especially Iowa, after I read one of the poster's comments. 🤣 The poster said after the Hawkeyes' WTF game that Iowa would sweep Rutgers this year while finishing near the top of the B1G. 😊

Iowa list to NET 300+.
Minnesota almost lost to NET 272 Chicago State.

I'll feel comfortable about Coppin St. and Bucknell when they're over with.

With Rutgers, it's not the teams with a dominant big man that concern me as much as those with quick guards that can get into the paint. With our length and commitment to defense, teams that try to pound it inside have to WORK to do it and the result is two points not three and a frustrating exercise for the opponent. Who was Pike concerned with when we played those Iowa teams with Luka Garza? Was it Garza, the National Player of the Year candidate, or Jordan Bohannon and Joe Wieskamp? He'd let Garza get his 27 & 14. 27 points is not enough to win a game.

I like how this team is coming together

If you told me we would avesge 70 ppg per game Dr all games January 1st and after…I would be buying tickets now for the Garden in March

More than other years ….with how we defend ….this year is going to be determined how well we score

Coppin State does have Sessions who was a thorn in our side the last few years when he was at Penn State. the last I looked he was averaging 24.5 points per game. We sometimes have struggled with games near Thanksgiving and near Christmas and New Year's. We should never take any game for granted.

Pike deserves the renovations before Schiano’s palace imo
well.. if you had to make the decision for the whole athletic department.. would you invest in football or basketball? which generates the most revenue/profit? which has the potential to generate a lot more?

Basketball is in better shape and if that means they "deserve".. keep in mind the giant newish facility right next to the RAC... football needs it more and if such an investment yields benefits.. it will return more on said investment.

You have to invest it in football, but in the back of your mind knowing it is a waste of money. The minute you stop appearing like you care about football you are booted from the conference.

You guys are too funny. Do you remember Pike’s year 3?

Players recruited and/or developed that were on the Year 3 roster.

Ron Harper Jr.
Montez Mathis
Jacob Young (sat out as a transfer in)
Myles Johnson
Eugene Omoyuri
Geo Baker

What Schiano hasn't done is established who the "young guns" are during his 3 years here. When you try and rebuild AND take a ton of transfers, by Year 4, we can't point to any QB, RB, WR, TE pieces to generate offense.

He has done that on the defensive side. But we don't have any juniors or sophomores that we can say "he's a building block".

We have Sam Brown and Chris Long with Gavin Wimsatt as the centerpiece who helped generate the 2022 class.

If we had another 4 or 5 pieces in place to go with Wimsatt, Brown and Long, I think RU would feel better.

Harper turned out great but that roster at that time was nothing to be excited about. Jacob Young was a good transfer but he sat out. I was a big seller of Pike until he won me over in year 4. Point is Pike needed 4 years to turn it around and football is just a bigger ship.
