Dangerously cold wind chills as low as -20°F to 0° will develop for Friday night and Saturday night. The coldest wind chills will occur across the Pocono Plateau. Impacts may be exacerbated if power outages from the winds occur and these impacts last into the weekend.

The same arctic front which will race through our area on Friday is currently making its way across the Great Plains of the central US. In Cheyenne, WY, the temperature dropped 40° in just 30 mins this afternoon. This is a very powerful system that will impact the eastern 2/3rds of the contiguous US with dangerously cold, wintry weather and windy conditions.

Friday morning will be mild but by the time the evening comes brutal cold will arrive.

We're away until next week so house sitting empty and no water running.

Should I have a neighbor turn on a faucet or two?

Did you leave your thermostat on at a reasonable temperature (55 or higher)? If so, should be no problem, unless you have an older home in which a freezing pipe has been a problem.

Your outside hose spigots should be turned off and left with the valve open.
Here's a plumber in case you need one. Hope the plumbing is better than his offense (can't believe he branched out to plumbing!):

I would leave the thermostat at at least 60. That helps the refrigerator function properly.

Behind the cold front will be frigid temperatures and high winds, making it feel even colder. Christmas Eve morning could see several areas in the single digits for lows, and wind chills going down to negative single (possibly double) digits. The quick drop in temperatures from the cold front could result in a flash freeze Friday night into Saturday.

Where I live now - Colorado - I was out yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon doing some banking at 2pm and it was 53. By 6:30pm it was -3 and it was -13 at 7am today when I was out shoveling snow and hasn't gotten above 0 all day.

The only saving grace, if there can be any at -13, is that the snow is so light and fluffy out here shoveling 6" is a walk in the park compared to just 2 or 3" of the wet stuff back in NJ.

Yea woke up at 6 am to -14F here in Denver and at 330 pm its a balmy 9F.

15 on the slopes was nipply enough. Thankfully the worst of the front passed on by. Now things warm up.

A quick report from here in Boone NC, readying for an Artic blast.... Tonight -1°.
Tomorrow Hi: 5 Lo: -3 snow showers and flurries; Extremely cold wind chills (-30°); WNW wind 25-35 mph, gusts to 60 mph.
Note: those temps are for the town (3333-feet). We're up at 4600-feet and typically about 6° colder here, and... with more wind. But we're ready.

its going to depend on how quickly the rain ends and how quickly then the cold rushes in. Be on the lookout for those going to the game at the RAC tomorrow night

When it happens, the road crews will have a hard time catching up in real time

Everyone needs to watch for black ice. Extremely dangerous when wet roads experience this kind of temperature change. Drive super slow when the freeze hits!

Wonder if they’ll change the game time to earlier or postpone it all together

State offices closed tomorrow. Bucknell has a 3-4 hour ride back on slippery roads on the eve of Christmas Eve

Flash freeze on the horizon - will be interesting to see what happens

I was thinking noon

At this point, with state offices being closed and the forecast calling for dangerous conditions, I’d be surprised if they didn’t change it
