Kinda weird to hire an OL coach first, though?
It is somewhat, regularly I see the OC named and shortly after an OL coach he’s worked with or currently works with and sometimes it’s announced together. Longo and Bicknell came pretty quickly 1-2 one after the other, both from UNC.

He was in Indiana, but wonder if he would come to NJ. His head coaching record was not terrible. Surprised he was fired.

Any others?
I’ve mentioned Bill Bedenbaugh in the past. He’s the OL coach at OU. He’s never been OC before but he has talked about being capable of it but hasn’t ever gotten the chance. He’s been OL coach for Leach, Riley and now a Briles guy in Jeff Lebby. If you’re gonna take a chance on a first time OC that’s the kind of background that’s a decent gamble IMO.

Any Leach tree guys left for Rutgers?
Wes Welker (a former Leach player coached by Holgorsen at TT) is another one I've mentioned a handful of years ago as one to keep an eye on. He was just an assistant to a position coach for the Texans at the time. I was wondering if he couldn't be a WR coach in college, possibly for a Leach HC and then eventually be like a Jim Leonhard type. He ended up staying in the NFL and has been WR coach for the 49ers and Dolphins these last 4 years. He'd be a first time OC and I have no idea what his offensive philosophy would be or if he even wants to coach in college. There's the Belichick connection though being a former Patriot player.
