I’m pretty sure for most, if not all, the navigation and personal assistant apps you can change between male or female voice somewhere in the settings. I think you can even choose accents for some of them.

I believe on Waze at one point you could even have Cookie Monster.

Not sure, but I believe you could also record your own voice. That would be great... having my wife's voice give me directions... yup... never happens in real life... nope... never tells me where to go...

Maybe a male voice would scare people if it spoke when they were not expecting it

Yeah, in the same sentence none the less. Nice, pleasant voice then changes to what sounds like a heavily hormoned, newly, transgengerized female. I switched to the other female option (with street names)...no issues.

Yeah I remember having to download voices with accents and had Aussie girl instructions years ago.

Yep, noticed it a few weeks ago. Told my love it sounded like Wheezie (Waze) was going through puberty with the voice changes. Glad I’m not the only one who noticed!

Mine is set to "Randy." My better half hates Randy and berates him for giving bad directions. Just checked, and Randy is still the Waze voice. When driving through Atlantic City, Randy showed a preference for the streets with dilapidated row houses and dealers on the street. Randy may have a habit.

Have noticed Waze promoting some different voices/features lately such as drive with Santa, but Randy is still with us.

Glad it’s not just me. Sometimes both voices are going at the same time.

I just switched mine to “Master Chief” and will let you all know how it turns out.

Mine goes back and forth.
Nice feminine voice on the 1st turn then the butchy voice on the next turn. And then back.

Use Google Maps, it's the same thing as Waze now. Waze is only around because of die hard users, it's not necessary.

I liked Google Maps because it didn’t speak over my Spotify like WAZE does. It would pause the song.

But now Google Maps does that too. 👎

I use the English(UK) voice of Thomas.
Adds a little class.
Sometimes I use Kate another UK voice.
I like those because it also includes street names.

It's not the same thing yet, but they are continuing that transition. All the new features since they were acquired by Google have been applied to Google maps, but there are still fundamental differences from before the acquisition which haven't been integrated which can result in different routes being shown.
