Had not realize that he retired due to Parkinson. Who does not love Sweet Caroline or other Neil Diamond songs? Cherry, Cherry a very underrated tune.
Maybe it was more popular than I remember, but this song is underrated as an anthem for the greatest country in the world. The guy sitting with the pretty woman at 3:00--calm down sir, don't get to excited!
As the son of immigrants this was used as the background music for the video tribute at my Dad’s wake.

I totally forgot about that song. This is what we should be playing at home games instead of Sweet Caroline. It's perfect, especially because NJ is home to Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty.

The Neil Young song is much more uplifting and celebratory.
Bruce's song is more of a historical, rambling account of immigration, and less celebratory, but points out all of the reasons to "come to America."
Colby...what do you think of Sir Shelby as a new screen name ? Has a nice ring to it I think.

Sorry man, saw some commonality in American anthems. Regardless of some people's feelings that is a good song. No country is perfect and has flaws. I am a believer in exposing and examining flaws in everything so that we can find ways to correct them and make this country an even better place to live. Sadly, some take any affront to recognition of flaws.

Minor faults become terrible deeds , while terrible deeds done by those admired are acceptable because of liking hat person.

The title of "Sir" needs to be awarded to an individual, you just can't take it upon yourself. Not sure who is going to award it to YOU!!!
You know that's what the on/off switch is for? I know that in recent years Bruce will do or say something that will piss me off so I just don't listen to him. I avoid watching any interviews he may give or going to see him perform. For the past 40 or so years, with some exceptions, he hasn't put out much music worth listening to any way. So I pretend it's still the 70s when he did his job which was to entertain me without preaching to me and listen to his old stuff.

The last time I saw B.B King he talked more than he played. There wasn’t any message he was pushing or any real good stories, he just wasn’t playing.

Agree. Schiano, Bruce, Saban,Torre, Pikiell, Pat Riley,Coach K, anyone and everyone. All that matters is the game or concert itself. I don’t care one bit about their jaded opinions or statements about anything, not even about their teams.
My 3 favorite singers and performers of all time are Bruce Springsteen, Donna Summer(died 10 years ago from cancer) and Neil Diamond(can't tour anymore due to having Parkinsons) in that order.
Have seen Springsteen about 150 times, Summer about 15 times and Neil Diamond about 30 times. I thought the new broadway musical "A Beautiful Noise" was very good. The critics absolutely killed it.(they also killed Mamma Mia and it had a fairly nice run on Broadway. LOL).
Unless you hate Neil Diamond songs, I recommend going to see it. Not a great plot. Also, probably the least amount of money ever spent on a Broadway set(I go very often). BUT, the music is really, really good and performed really well.
I have to admit that I have been totally turned off by Springsteen's stand that he has no problem with many tickets to his upcoming tour going for 2-4 thousand dollars. Of course, no one puts a gun to anyone's head to buy the tickets, but in MY MIND, ticketmaster should be put up on charges for taking original tickets that were going on sale to all venues and immediately moving them to their secondary market.

My wife and I saw “A Beautiful Noise“ as well and we really liked it. Critics hate jukebox musicals, but I like them, and I learned many interesting dimensions about his life. The guy who played the lead was excellent, and it was a fun night in the city.

I'm with you on the ticketing.
I'm not active on the Backstreets BTX boards, but I read a lot, and there is a thread over there talking about how Metallica: (1) gave preference to fan club members; (2) a lot of people got tickets for $80/ticket plus TM charges at the initial on sale. Of course debates ensued on Metallica sucking and sounding like nails on a chalkboard and being horrible because they are "heavy metal."
Then, some mentioned on the BTX board that Metallica is an apolitical band in concert, and they make public service announcements that they welcome fans regardless of their politics and that at their concerts they want people to come together and enjoy the music. Well, this then caused the Bruce sycophants to start lobbing out insults about 1/6 and the orange man, which was kind of weird, but totally in keeping with what is seen across a lot of social media.
My musical taste spans the spectrum from jazz to blues to regular rock, to heavy metal, thrash and punk. I love it all. At a concert, I prefer to listen to music. Not a lecture. If it is a charity concert or for a cause, then that is a different story. Or if a performer is supporting a charity such as feeding the hungry (which both Bruce and Metallic do), then no problem. That's apolitical. I don't want to hear Bruce wax on about his party any more than I would want to listen to Ted Nugent or Aaron Lewis (from Staind, not our linebacker guy) wax on about their party. Let the music do the talking.
And I don't want a lecture from other Bruce fans that "you must not be interpreting or understanding his lyrics." Art and lyrics can have many interpretations and meanings to different people. It's like the Creedence Clearwater tune-- I live by those words that there is a bathroom on the right, and nobody is going to tell me that song means anything different.

For me, love the art, not the artist. Having briefly met Bruce and another musical artist who I closely followed, both were not rude, but I walked away underwhelmed.
I did say that there were some exceptions. For instance I really enjoy Waiting on a Sunny Day. But IMHO his body of work post Born in the USA/Tunnel of Love hasn't been all that great.
I cannot think of a musical group or artist whose work post the early years is all that great in comparison to their earlier work. Can you?
Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Ozzy, to name a few. Seems musicians/artists on their way up who are starving and/or hungry always produce better music than after they have made it.
