Pikell does a great job with defense. However, he has been the HC now for 7 years and I can’t figure his offensive philosophy or scheme. I know it does not involve any significant use of screens. Not much in terms of motion. No back door plays. Feeble attempts at pick and roll with Cliff although not so much this year. Somebody please explain Pikell’s offense, I want to know.

The offense is inept because the players lack the skill set to create and make shots off the dribble.Missing so many layups is unacceptable along with the low number of three point shots made. Its a recruiting problem.
This is correct

I have no idea what our offensive philosophy is but it’s sure as s**t not gonna land us the big dogs in the 2024 class.
He has to change this soon

Wrong.....you can win with defense. This is the blueprint for this team to win games. We are a bad offensive team, but we aren't this bad. 19/20 we will win playing like this defensively.
He said you can't win with JUST defense. Our offense was wretched today. I love our defense, but we need more on the other side of the ball.

Look at our adjusted offensive efficiency scores. Most nights we aren't this bad.

The problem is we start playing guys who can help us score more we take 2 steps back defensively.

Play Hyatt instead of Mag and we score 55, but give up 60.

Slight exaggeration

we arent scoring alot of points against teams will pulses.....43, 66, 63, 61, 66

I would be concerned..very concerned
Paul takes and makes open 3s
Mag is limited offensively
Caleb is limited offensively

We just aren’t going to score 70 consistently. We have to win 66-61.

This is a bad offensive team that just needs to be bad and not rancid to win some nights.

Being 0-3 in close games is what has me concerned. Execution wise we are 1-2.

there is no Ron or Geo to bail this team out

our level of D isnt sustainable because some of these teams will be better offensively...shu missed ton of open looks from 3. Purdue could be very ugly. Remember how even with a good D last year we threw our hands up in the air about beating Iowa last year in the Big 10 tourney, we couldnt get a single stop vs Notre Dame

I am not enough of a basketball expert to dissect or explain it, but it's pretty clear to me that there is a scheme, and it can look okay when it's actually being executed. I think it tends to be overly conservative but in general is probably not the biggest part of the problem, which is that for the most part our players are just not that skilled offensively. A lot of this is down to recruiting moreso than strategy imo. Pike has done quite well at finding underrecruited guys that are good, but this also fits with his philosophy as (1) it's easier for great defensive players to be missed in HS recruiting and (2) it seems to be easier to teach people with the right attitude and general athletic ability how to be great defenders than scorers

We're brutal on offense. We have to stop turning over the ball if we want to make the tournament.

I thought Seton Hall did a very good job on defense but we had plenty of unforced turnovers.

We tired down the stretch.

This team is probably better defensively.

I agree that although defense isn’t always going to be a constant AND if he doesn’t use his bench the team will wear down in March.
