Question about Korsak and NFL

Obviously making an nfl team as a punter is brutally hard because there are no backups.

we know he is good.

but does his style translate to NFL where getting the kick off quick and hangtime seems to be the key?

does he have a shot at the NFL?

have we ever had a punter or kicker in the NFL?

Mike Barr definitely kicked in some preseason games--not sure if he ever played in a regular season game.

I've been thinking about this, too. He has some skills, but isn't he always stepping out to the right in order to get those couple of steps in before he kicks it? A Pro team would figure out how to attack that at some point, no?

Deron Cherry was a punter at Rutgers. But then he became an All Pro safety for the Kansas City Chiefs. Don't know if they ever called upon him to punt in an emergency.

Some of the early Rutgers backs and quarterbacks from the 1920s and 1930s were sometimes handed the dual jobs of running/throwing the ball and punting it away or drop-kicking it for a field goal.

heard on RURant today he may come back for 1 more year... which would be AMAZING! if it happens...

NFL doesn't like rugby punting or running kicks... they think they have way too much talent/speed at every position - and that style of punting is too risky... and I'd agree the margin for error in NFL punting is 1/100ths of a second and inches...

he WILL get a shot... not sure if he'll catch on.. I sure hope so!!

You can't do a rugby punt in the NFL. They have different rules for illegal man down field on punts than NCAA.

A few weeks ago, the Eagles punter Aaron Siposs ( an Aussie) caught the snap and there was a man in his face so he pulled the ball in and did a rugby punt, but they called a penalty.

Korsak can succeed in the NFL, but he'll have to do it via a standard NFL punt.

He doesn’t turn the ball over or have enough air time kicking from his own territory…imo

As mentioned above, only the outside gunners can leave before the ball is kicked, so the style doesn’t translate. With the short hang time of the rugby punt, returns would be easier against it.

I was wondering why he was able to hold it so long - another difference between CFB and the nfl.
