It's one thing to draw a paycheck from Rutgers for game presentation, do things 99% of fans despise, and not be a fan.

It's quite another to rub it in those fans faces.

Seriously? Laugh at us and say thanks in a DM or a private email.

PJ is a Penn State alumn, chill out. Having met the guy, I liked him, and he's absolutely all-in on RU. He's super interested in bringing forward elements of Rutgers history and celebrating them (throwback unis, promotions, multiple scarlet knights, etc.) trying new things that haven't been done before (Winter village), and upgrading previous elements into a whole new stage (the boardwalk). He's got some growing pains before he's completely settled in, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. The previous marketing director Rob Roselli was also a Penn State Alumnus, and he did great stuff for RU, and he got a Rutgers degree while here.

I'll give P.J. the benefit of the doubt.

Trying new things, like playing the Nittany Lion roar over the stadium sound system during RU home games? I like new things that don't suck.

Bro, I PROMISE you, if you graduated from Rutgers, worked for Rutgers for a decade after graduation, then got a better job offer at another university, you are still going to think fondly of Rutgers… Shoot it would be awful if our fans abandoned ship.

Your getting Butthurt that PJ got sent a hat from the student radio group he was part of and a consultant for for over 10 years.

Seriously get over yourself OP. You’re just looking for something to get upset about.

Now if you wanna discuss the god forsaken train horn, I’m all ears

But let’s just let the record show here… it’s NOT the fact that we haven’t had a winning season in nearly a decade, it’s NOT the fact that our offense is arguably the worst in college football, it’s NOT the obnoxious train horn blasting on 3rd down, it’s NOT the stupid long lines next to the bubble to catch the busses back to the RAC parking lot, it’s NOT the fact that literally 1 time in the last 5 years we left the stadium happy after a win…

It’s the Gameday PR guy posting a picture of a psu comm radio hat which was sent to him as a gift by the club he was a part of and consultant for for over a decade which directly helped him land his promotion with us that sets you over the edge… STUPID!

it’s like an old club soccer club sending you a patch after you go to a new bigger club, happens ALL the time

Does the OP realize that Greg Schiano coached under Joe Paterno for 6 years? Lol. This is comedy

I would love to hear his explanation for that.

I can answer this question because I called PJ out on it and he immediately fessed up. He was in charge of the game day music at psu when he was there. The roar was diapered randomly in his music catalog. Unfortunately, he didn't get all of them out and, yes, it did roar a couple of times his first game. But it was fixed immediately & never happened again.

This. 150% this. PJ is absolutely all in on Rutgers.
Everything positive that occurred this year: Boardwalk, light show, drone show, banner flying over Xfinity/Philly during the pregame tailgate, Winter fest at the RAC....all PJ & his team.

The roar definitely happened way past the first game haha. It was a pretty bad mistake that continued somehow.

With that said, if he’s doing a good job here than it what’s the big deal. If we have Rutgers alums working for other ADs I would hope they still have pride in their alma mater.

I’m more upset about why we can’t groom our own students/alumni for roles like this and have to settle on PSU alums year after year.

This is ultimately my issue as well.

His doing a good job here is subjective. There is far more complaining about the dumb crap he does than the people who defend him because he does a good job at being "a total sweetheart" in the parking lots.

Again, since his finger is supposedly on the pulse of Rutgers and he's "totally onboard" he knows 100% Rutgers fans hate all things Penn State. When your old buddies still out in Crappy Valley send you swag you simply send them a thanks, and most likely a giggle at what complete morons we have running our AD that continue to hire out of our enemy's barracks, in private. Not on Twitter where the majority of people who follow you do so because of your affiliation with Rutgers.

Unpopular opinion: Penn State does a lot of things right on gameday. They're a big time athletic school with a big time atmosphere. Do I like them? Hell no but I am smart enough to know you can hire them and improve your brand.

You think Apple doesn't hire from Google and IBM? Ford not hiring people from Tesla or Honda? Etc etc.

I thought PSU’s game day stuff was horrible tbh. Dumpy stadium, dumpy speakers. It actually reminded me of Qualcomm in San Diego before it got knocked down.

Absolute dump, but they pack in 108k people so it’s easy to make up for it.

Also, purge all PSU people. They shouldn’t be involved in RU athletics in any way.

We do have great RU alumni in marketing roles. A bunch of the Riot Squad has gone on to be a part of Rutgers athletics, and then you have folks like Mike Greengarten who is as Rutgers as they come and was part of marketing for years before moving into RFund.

It just so happens that we've had several folks from other areas as well. Our director of marketing came from Wake Forest and graduated from Temple. Our Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing is a Rutgers grad. It's a varied department.

If he never plays "Sweet Caroline" again, I'm ok with PJ.
It's part of the Penn State schtick so it's never going away, but to be fair it's that way at a great many stadiums now. Heaven forbid we should be mostly original.

The issue is everything has become generic. I’m sorry, but this guy brings no added value to the department if he’s playing the same 10-15 songs that are being played at every other stadium.

Want a cool game day experience? Create an experience unique to Rutgers.

Utilize the revolutionary war.
Utilize the first college football game.
Utilize 1766.
Record former players at mid field firing the cannon and play it on the big screen.

Hell, do a whole clip of cannon wars between RU and Princeton.

Rutgers has a lot of really cool things and history to implement in game day operations to make it unique to the university and NJ.

It’s not that hard. You know what is hard? Finding someone that has a creative mind with balls that isn’t afraid to think outside the box.

This PSU grad ain’t it and him having the lion roar dubbed into some of his songs proves that.

AGK - That was my gripe with him. Others do it so we should? He also said people seemed to enjoy it. Not where I sat - most ignored it and those who mouthed the words did so by rote, not enjoyment.

To correct you on one point, our last coaching cycle the AD attempted to hire someone outside of enemy barracks but it was our fans who were screaming from the rafters for a coach who came up in the paterno coaching tree…. Seriously, get over yourself

Agree the roar was more than a 1 game issue. If PJ is the "reason" for the boardwalk and some other pre game festivities he should be commended. It was a fantastic pre game. But he is also responsible for the clusterf$%k in game production as well.

Sorry but if I was to be put in charge of a new project at another school/company I would not copy and paste my prior work and think that was sufficient. Bringing the soundboard from PSU should have been a start not the finished product. My old roommate in NYC was a DJ on the weekends. He had a different soundboard and musical catalog for every club he worked. He spent hours each week making sure everything was fine tuned before he had a gig. For the PSU roar to be anywhere near the Rutgers in game catalog is defenseless.

Kupuna133 puts it well. Say PJ had started a job with Ohio St or Michigan and did a lazy, sloppy, carelessness job playing the Nittany Lion roar. He would be fired. Why? Accountability. It's not the nice way. It's not the easy way.

Then why deal with us on here? LOL

😁
Because I can pick and choose who I talk to and ignore. We (along with every other fanbase) have some absolute morons as fans who whole don’t represent the majority, are often the loudest and most obnoxious. Kinda like a guy who can’t see past all the amazing things RU is doing under pj (I loved the boardwalk this year) and try to chastise him because of a gift he was sent from a club he was involved with at his Alma mater. You couldn’t pay me enough, actually you could but Rutgers can’t afford it

You can choose to ignore it, you don’t and that’s ok. But I’ve been spot on with Greg. Hated the hire, said it would divide the fanbase 3 years ago…. I’ve been right on everything
