Want to surpriser my wife with a vacation for her 50th. She has always wanted to go to Turks and Caicos. The board has always been a source for great info! Would appreciate any suggestions on places to stay/restaurants/activities/etc. Willing to spend on a great experience for her...

Beaches in T & C was beautiful. If you guys are really in to food I’d look elsewhere. OK at best but otherwise beautiful
Stayed at The Palms. Would highly recommend that hotel. Snorkeling was great and Iguana Island was cool to check out too
The Somerset at Grace Bay is our favorite at T&C. Not cheap but beautiful, smaller place so when you are on the beach you are not surrounded by a hundred people. Very well appointed rooms and overall great atmosphere. We aren’t much for crowded all-inclusive spots and this is the antithesis. I’d compare it to The Reefs in Bermuda.
7 stars although a while back now. Salt water pools and was very relaxing in general.
Club Med is a fantastic value but Beaches has the nicest resort. Been there 7 times and love it. IT’s everything a vacation should be, and never have been disappointed.
Because I’ve been there though I haven’t stayed there. They are closeby to one another on Grace Bay.
I am sorry , didn’t understand your post. Which place is the one that “everything a vacation should be “? Club med ?

You can stay anywhere in Turks and Caicos and have an awesome time. The draw is the beautiful ocean, coral reefs, and marine life.
I can vouch that the service at Club Med is top notch.
All-inclusives are for lazy people. Islands normally have better options for food and nightlife (unless you are on a super private island like Peter Island or Little Cayman).
Damn lazy people on vacation! They should be workin‘ their asses off on vacation!
Get out of the resort and enjoy the culture and local establishments. A little work makes the vacation even better!
I don’t begrudge anyones’s choice for anything. Myself, I’d rather pay more and not deal with some of what goes on at some all-inclusive places. Give me the Reefs, Breakers, Inn at Somerset, BlackBerry Inn etc. Just a personal preference….Enjoy whatever you like.

With few exceptions, no one travels to the Caribbean for the food, as almost everything has to be imported, and it can be quite expensive.
They go for the warm water and the sunshine. All inclusives have gone upscale and I found the food to be quite good. Of course you can get better at restaurants, but it will be more expensive. The all inclusive allows you to spend more time at the beach, boating, drinking, and dancing, and less time traveling around to a restaurant. Its an easy way to meet other people and it also offers more predictable budgeting. All inclusive costs are similar to going on a cruise.
Cruises blow even worse. We are regular visitors to several islands and the local food is outstanding. Each restaurant seems to have a unique vibe and story to tell. Don't miss out with those lame cookie-cutter inclusive resorts.
I went to Turks and Caicos Club Med several times in 80s and early 90s.
I loved it because of the extreme decadence
Thanks for recommendation. Are there good restaurants there and other things to do? Enjoy relaxing on beach but also would like to dive/snorkel and maybe play a round of golf with the wife.
Is there a certain area to stay if you want great restaurants/ some night life?
My wife and I recently stayed at Windsong on the Reef Resort on Grace Bay. It is absolutely beautiful.
The resort beach has a reef that you can snorkel. It's an amazing reef for one accessible from the beach. We saw numerous turtles and rays each time we snorkeled.
The suites are magnificent. Breakfast was included daily which was well done.
There are so many good restaurants near Grace Bay which we made reservations for dinner with the concierge the day we arrived. The transportation to them is quick and easy.
The resort is somewhat pricey but well worth it.

I know what you mean. I was there around 7 times in the 80's.
Remember having to get drinks with beads?
Then there was JoJo the dolphin who was a regular visitor.

At the Somerset you can do as much or little as you’d like. We’ve been there several times and done the following: took a hotel sailboat out, snorkeled off the beach, went on a snorkeling excursion on a boat, hired a boat and captain to give us a day long private cruise with snorkeling on cookout on a deserted small island, hung by the beach and pool. There are a couple restaurants onsite that are good re are other resort restaurants in walking distance. I’d say the nightlife is more at neighboring resorts/clubs in walking distance or short cab if you prefer. Along with the Reefs in Bermuda, this is one of our top picks. Not cheap but I’m not looking for bargains on vacations.
Edit to add we also golfed once but, while enjoyable, it certainly wasn’t a world class course. Also, you can charter a fishing excursion.

Da Conch Shack - a bar and restaurant where you pull the conch right out of the shell .. totally cool and unique experience and right on the beach. Also on the beach there you can ride horses in the shallow water. Dreamy

I would recommend choosing either Beaches, 7 Stars Resort, or Club Med.

It’s the culture of the resort which is half the fun. Can’t replicate that anywhere else.
