I feel that in the tri-state area you need at least mid-7 figures liquid net worth to fund NIL initiatives.

I’ve been giving $1,200 to the R fund for probably 15 years and my wife has been giving the same to Dartmouth.
Our combined income is mid to high 6 figures. With 3 kids in high and middle schools, I feel zero compulsion to give to RU football NIL.
Agreed. Those are decent $'s you are talking about. But in this area, in no way does it make you rich.

I don't know about you, but the fact that something may not be going away isn't necessarily a factor in determining my philosophical beliefs. Having to accept certain things in this world doesn't and shouldn't mean that I also have to support them, or voluntarily help to fund them.
Right- according to RUBlackout logic--everybody else is doing it, so should you. Using his pretzel logic, if crime is rising, maybe we consider committing more crimes.
Because there are a lot of very dense people on here who are so dug into their position that they can't understand the rationale and valid counterpoints that have been spelled out to them already so clearly. Time after time.
Or nuance. If you don't think exactly like they do, they call you out, denigrate and gaslight you.
Agree. What a senseless argument and completely irrelevant to the point
Another good point.

There are no valid counterpoints. We chose to play big time football. You may not like NIL. I don’t either . But we have to adapt and learn to support it and live with it

I root for my college teams primarily because it involves rooting for players who willingly chose to attend my alma mater.
That's not how it works, particularly in football. Hasn't in decades either. In fact, outside of a few walk on's, I don't think theres a single player on RU's gameday roster that's here because they "willingly chose to". They came here because they were offered a scholorship. Without that scholorship offer, I PROMISE you 95% of the roster would not be in place. For many years in college football, that was the standard of payment. Recently College athletes have taken notice of the enormous amount of money their schools would make off of them and demand further compensation. The landscape of college football shifted as a result.

As for not supporting NIL, that's fine but at this point there's no point in complaining about it. It's not going away, it's never going back to the way it used to be

Big facts. Everyone was thrilled when we made it to the Big 10, now that we're here they don't want to do what it takes to compete. If you don't wanna do what it takes, shoulda stayed in the eventual AAC

Well said. This needs to be pinned.
As for the people screaming “I am not giving a dime to NIL and I never will” it’s just bizarre if you’re a fan of the program . If NIL is a dealbreaker to some of you , then find something else to spend entertainment money on.

Ridiculous. The only way that your argument might be valid, stating that no player willingly chose to be here, would be if none of them had other scholarship offers that they chose not to accept, in favor of choosing the scholarship to Rutgers.

It's an interesting observation to see full grown men feel they have every right to chastised and criticize our athletes as though they are professionals but yet complain about the thought of paying them. People have their own entitilements I suppose

Nah. Bought my wife and kids awesome Christmas presents instead.
I did as well but NIL is the new lifeblood of the program whether you like it or not. I don’t get how many of the so called die hards can spend hours daily here but not be behind NIL. Hours and hours of your time is spent here but we don’t want to help the team get good players.

Not ridiculous. No serious college football player would attend Rutgers without a scholorship. Up until last year scholorships were the universally recognized form of "payment" to student athletes, that no longer is the case, you simply don't want to accept that. I promise you if football was not a thing, 95% of our football roster would not be students at Rutgers. They did not "willingly choose" Rutgers, Rutgers provided them the best opportunity and payment in the form of a scholorship. You can whine about it as much as you like but as Bob Dylan wrote, 'the times' they are'a changin'.

Lastly as far as "if they had no other offers", half our roster is guys that we were their only P5 offer

I criticize lots of people who aren't my employees. Since when did "You can't criticize me unless you give me money," become a thing?

Quite honestly…I saw Pacheco as a beast from his first handoff at RU…he ran at 200% speed every time he touched the ball….you can’t coach that
Lol so wrong Pacheco ran behind a terrible Offensive Line while at Rutgers. It’s the reason he had limited success. Put any great back behind the lines he ran behind and they would have looked very average. Coaching has nothing to do with his success in the NFL. Our OL was bad real bad.

Half? I have better things to do than analyze the whole roster but I think it's higher. Remember, BC and Syracuse are P5 schools.

It’s already skyrocketed. Paid $3.35/gallon last winter to fill our tank. Just filled it for this winter at $5.69/gallon
We only bought 100 gallons at that price to tide us over. Just checked yesterday, the guy we usually buy from is down to $4.399 if I buy 150.

I gotta LOL at guys here on their high horses donating $10 or even $100 a month and giving us against the idea ****. If yall think that donation us going to make a difference L O L. That's getting you 1/1000 of a RB.

Either support it for real or STHU.

Yes because the guy that jumps up and down and kicks and screams to donate $0 is somehow better than the guy that donates $100 and accepts the NIL reality ?? Unreal

I thought we had come to kind of an understanding.

But if not and this was intended for others: Keep up that $100 useless virtue signal.

I lol at those faux die hards who live on the boards but refuse to get involved in something that would really help the team get better talent. Now you k ow why the BIG Build Fund needed political help to get fully funded.

This has been around for a year- you really think that is what lost us games this year?SMFH
Logic is not his strong suit.
Mario Cristobal/Miami and Jimbo (Texas A&M) say hi. Meanwhile, NIL powerhouse USC gets owned twice by Utah. Coaching matters. So does talent. Where's the NIL collective for coaches?

To plum and others- many of us will support the team in the ways that we do.
Hell, if they raised prices and it cost us that 100 a month more to go to games, we would do it.
Asking civilians to pay for someone else’s advertising- I’m sorry, that just doesn’t work for me and never will.
If that means we fall behind, we’ll, then we fall behind and maybe at some point, I just decide to go fishing on Saturday’s - to be honest, so many in my situation just stopped following the team as soon as the school was done with their first born. Lol

You have unwittingly hit on a relevant point (although you mangled it a bit). The point is not to "get better talent" - in reality, the point is to win enough to be ranked. Can having better talent help achieve that? Sure, but having a little bit better talent does not necessarily guarantee the desired increase in winning. For example, nobody would argue that if we had outbid USC for Jordan Addison this season, we would have "better talent." But would Addison have made us a ranked team? No. A conference title contender? No. A bowl team? No.

My point is that if we're not going to spend enough to become a ranked team, why bother? And we're not going to spend the necessary amount. Ever. We're the Kansas City Royals and until a Rutgers graduate is CEO and primary shareholder of the company that discovers the cure for cancer, it's not going to change. Why waste money if it's not going to substantially increase wins? You might as well burn it.

It’s funny- the “screws” probably go to more Rutgers away games then just about anyone on this board and you think he is saying he can’t afford $10?

Some ignored guy probably has an anti-Screw agenda.

It's not that we can't it's that we won't in most cases. Mrs is chipping in as much as many of the "supporters" (LOL) this year but a RB is going to cost $100K. Most $100/month contributions won't do diddly. I'd be amazed if there were 1000 regular donators to the Athletics Dept and even more so if there was 1000 in the NIL game.

And $100K get you one (our guy Brown) RB. What about the rest and if you're not actually changing the game with all your NIL donations, then back off. You're 100/M isn't doing squat except make you think you can speak up. But you're wrong. Even $100/M isn't doing crap.

Sadly, there it is.

Either you're kicking in Big $$$ or you're just blowing smoke. I choose to stand on my principles and will only consider NILs to end-of-career RU players. And that's CONSIDER, not a done deal.

You’re not good at math are you? A single NIL subscription won’t go much. But 10,000 will. Why anyone would openly discourage NIL is beyond me. If you’re too cheap to donate, at least encourage others.

Well, the two obvious reasons would be ...

1. It will destroy intercollegiate athletics, and
2. It's a system we fundamentally cannot compete in. The Rutgers 1000 couldn't design a better system to alienate us from major college athletics.
