What a waste of $8 million they could have used on a new coach by waiting 3 weeks. Short sighted emotional decision
could be Albert felt the loss of fans and booster donations if Scott was retained after this latest insult to Nebraska's football tradition would cost the Athletic Department more than the $8 Million saved by keeping Frost a few more weeks before canning him
Rutgers fans can claim Cornhuskers winning tradition is dead, but if their AD acts like the program isn't worth investing money for improvement ( even by paying a HC to leave ASAP) , the fans will stop going to the games, boosters will stop donating and any chance of improvement will be gone..
Nebraska fans still have a winning tradition mentality and the AD must cater to that in order to get fans to fully support Cornhusker football and feel that support is well placed.

Lets be honest, how many times have RU Fans said to themselves and/or this board:
just pay the money it will cost to dump a coach before contract is up and hire someone that can make this program a winner.
I really wonder if any RU fans that felt that way would feel waiting a few weeks to save money would make the AD look like he was trying to fix a problem as fast as he could.
More than likely the cry would be that AD cares more about the money spent on getting rid of a loser than making the program a winner despite the cost

I’ve mentioned this in another thread. IMO Mark Stoops if they can pry him from Kentucky. After that I like Leipold if he can go 6-6 this year or KSU’s Klieman if he has nice year or Matt Campbell.

IDK. Nebraska should be high on any coaches avoid at any salary list. They are right up there with Tennessee as a fanbase living on past results and unrealistic expectations. Frost needed another 5 years to right the ship. 😉

Georgia Southern is not a door mat like people thought. Anyway, I think the firing does help us, we might be able to get a win. Nebraska basically threw this year out.

Lance Leopold is their best option but they won’t try and get him
Lance will be staying in Lawrence trying to make the Jayhawk football program a winner from the poor program he was hired to fix.
But in this day and age nothing is really assured and he might be a candidate, even though I feel he's not
Kansas is starting out strong, if they falter before season ends so will his chances to move on.

But besides Urban "decay" Meyer and "the" Lute who will be on everyone's lips as a cure for Frost-bite. Nebraska's AD might just go for Bill O'Brien because of how he kept Pervert State University treading water when everything looked like the Nittany Lions would be drowning .
Alex Grinch is a DC now , but expected to join the HC ranks very soon and might be someone Nebraska thinks can make the jump without a hitch.
Matt Campbell might be ready to make a move, how this year goes for the Cyclones will have a lot to do with his willingness to leave for the bucks and how programs in need look at him

That’s embarrassing for Trev Alberts to start a season that bad - tells you they should have made a move after last season. What are Alberts’ qualifications for AD besides playing there? I guess Bosworth turned down the job first.
Bosworth? He played for Oklahoma. Seems weird timing with the game against the Sooners this week. If there was one game they could rally behind Frost, that would be it.

Seriously, I think we would have been better off if Frost was still around with uncertainty swirling. He had become a cancer on the program. Now it has been removed.

If you remember we had players decide not to play the year to redshirt/transfer. That could happen at N as well. They haven’t played 4 games yet. I think that is a point being made.

I could easily see Matt Rhule there if Carolina fires him. He would be able to open a NY/NJ/PA pipeline for Brasky.
I don’t know about pipeline but he’s one that’s come to mind as well. I think they recruit fine. I think they had top 25 classes, they just didn’t put it together. They need someone to develop and harness.

I also wonder if Gary Patterson might not be a decent choice.

Why would Frost do that, they have to pay him $7.5 million more by firing him before Oct. 1. Not many people will take that kind of a cut, even if they offered him half of it, it is still a LOT of money!
Well, he could get NONE of it should they have waited until Oct 1.. thus the idea of the deal. he'd get something.. but that $8M figure was the extra it cost to cut him loose now.. I think. So, yeah.. maybe they did a deal and maybe he couldn't handle all the losing.. the failure he felt on the sidelines. I'm guessing he will go QB coach somewhere and make the climb up again in 3-4 years.. if he wants it. If he is a good enough QB coach maybe he goes NFL route.

I don’t want to hear about RU spending 400,000 on meal plans for the players when Nebraska just completely threw 8,000,000 down the toilet to try to beat Oklahoma
actually that $8 mil might have been spent to appease an angry fanbase and keep the major boosters willing to donate.
For all we know, boosters might be covering the exit just to get rid of him before he makes the program look worse.
Right now little expectations for a successful season, but Albert can ask boosters for funds to bring in a proven winner

Trev is used to making hard decisions from his days as the University of Nebraska-Omaha AD where he made the decision to drop football and wrestling from intercollegiate competition .
The wrestling program was dropped despite winning the national championship in its D-2 division.
But UNO was moving up into D-1AA ( as FCS was known back then) and the conference it was entering didn't have football or wrestling in it.

How so? He did not exactly pull talent from NY/NJ while at Baylor.

In his 3 years at Baylor:
2017- 27 recruits-- one two star recruit from Pennsville, NJ and Harrison Hand from Cherry Hill. None from PA/NY.
2018- 23 recruits. 1 JUCO from Brooklyn (RU did not offer)
2019- 25 recruits 1 from New Rochelle and one from Philly.

The pressure there is astronomical compared to here. The fans still think it’s the 90s and the program is relevant. I also read their fan boards last night and ours are mild compared to theirs.
We’re not stuck in the 90s; the only time that’s ever said is by people outside the program. We just want to be competitive for conference titles and establish an identity built with solid line play on both sides of the ball (and, you know—maybe not lose to a directional school at home in year 5 of a coach’s tenure).

You guys should understand our pain. Remember Ash’s last year? That’s exactly where we were. Guys had given up. Fan base was demoralized. There was no hope anywhere. Now, at least we can move forward.

I do remember the last year of Ash, where instead of looking forward to games on Saturday you were looking forward to the Monday after to see if news would come out of his firing each week. It’s a miserable time. The players that year did rally around Nunzio Campanille and we won a game or 2 and competed well in some others, the offense was fun to watch again. I hope that the intern NEB coach doesn’t rally them too hard before next month !

When things went down hill for us, I seem to recall a few players redshirting themselves to save a year of eligibility.

I wouldn’t say it’s the exact same. Frost’s teams lost a lot but the games were usually competitive. Ash lost 78-0 and consistently never scored or scored once.

Honestly Leipold is the best coach for them. Dude is just a winner.
Recruits don't remember Nebraska as a national power, so he's probably better off at Kansas with few expectations. Nebraska has such a small population, there can't be many top players there and it's now harder for them to recruit out of state without recent success.

NIL!!!
Nebraska is an incredible opportunity for any coach, they will have a bigger NIL war chest than Rutgers for sure!

Grinch REALLY should coach somewhere with green as their main color.

Nebraska's roster is very heavy on players from Nebraska, a state with all of 1.96 million people. I'm guessing this is more out of desperation than choice. Even programs like Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State and Clemson, which are surrounded by talent, recruit nationally. It might be very difficult for them to get a national pipeline going again which would doom them to mediocrity--the fate of Syracuse, which is also not surrounded by talent and no longer has a pipeline.
