Didnt think Liberty Mutual could produce a more idiotic commercial than the Limu Emu and Doug bits, but they topped them with their young people having fun commercial.
Close second Amazon commercial with mom talking to daughter about her urge to pay full price

Liberty Mutual must have the absolute worst ad agency in the business. The next funny scene in front of Liberty Island will be the first.

To me, there’s no more annoying, overplayed commercial than the Geico spot where everyone’s speaking in acronyms.

Ad agencies don't care whether we like a commercial or not. They care if we remember them and discuss them. This thread would be music to their ears.

I wrote my senior thesis on jingles and their effect on human purchasing behavior.

Yes my old professor in advertising class theorized that commercials that are annoying are good because people tend to remember the brand name more than if they like the commercial: “ring around the collar”
Guess more folks are not like me, if a commercial annoys me I will never buy the product. Stopped drinking Dr. pepper when they had that annoying vendor guy. Do like Fansville, maybe will have to go back to drinking the stuff.

+1. NO way I would buy a policy from Liberty Mutual. And I'd scrap my old car before I donate to Kars-for-kids.

Every national commercial is focus group tested with its target demographic. If you think a commercial is stupid, it may be that the ad agency just isn't that into you.

Also, those of us of a certain age should remember that we are rarely the targeted demographic. The assumption is that our brand preferences are already established.

Liberty commercials must be working. You are here talking about it. I don’t think I would have known liberty was an insurance company without them.

You’re probably right. But say you check geico and NJM . Are you going with geico if they’re more expensive due to the ad ?

Ah. Here's where I go give @RUScrew85 a hug for having Tivo with commercial skip buttons. I have no idea what commercials you are speaking of

Well except for the Kars For Kids one. Which is a scam to send Hassidic kids to camp. I'd rather set my car on fire & get a ticket for doing it before I'd donate it to them.

Did you know liberty existed before the commercials?
That logic makes no sense. Of the top of my head we have State Farm, The General, Progressive etc etc on TV. When it comes to something as important as insurance no one in their right mind should buy based on a dopey ad. Now if you want to argue that food commercials make their food look so appealing that people may want to try it………maybe.

I have noticed both of those commercials and find them particularly funny as they are so silly. I love the girl saying, “You read my diary?” The commercial that falls completely flat for me is the State Farm Patrick Mahomes “typical sneakerhead.” I completely missed the point as I thought it was just a guy that looked like Mahomes. But here I am talking about it, so I guess it was effective.

I like almost all the Progressive commercials

do not like the Allstate commercials with the guy who gets hurt, etc, maybe one was funny, the rest annoying.

I suspect that many have reversed feelings on these two

the original "Jake from State farm" was funny

The rarely seen sequel to that commercial was even funnier.

First the backstory. The original Jake from State Farm was not a professional actor. He was a State Farm associate who got his 15 minutes of fame for his one line "Uhhhh, khakis?" He then left State Farm and went on with his career.

Sometime later, State Farm decided to resurrect the character and make him their central advertising figure. This time they hired a professional actor. But they did bring back original Jake for one commercial. It was a reprise of the original commercial, where the weird guy calls Jake at 3 AM. But this time new Jake takes the call, presumably puts the caller on hold, and calls out to the next cubicle, "Hey, do they ever ask you what you're wearing?"

And original Jake responds "Uhhhh, yeah."

Why not? Property and casualty insurance is about as pure a commodity as is offered in our economy. You take your insurance policy to a competitor, ask them to quote you on the exact same policy, and they will do so. Exact same policy. Identical.

So, as an insurer, how do you attract customers? You can't say your insurance is qualitatively better, because it isn't and everyone knows it. So you focus on brand recognition. In other words, advertising - to a specific targeted demographic. To you it may seem dopey. To the targeted demographic, maybe not.

What is the target audience? Again something as important as insurance should not be based on an ad. It’s not like deciding which pizza place to go to for dinner. What have you actually learned about Liberty Mutual based on watching two emus get married?

Then what should the decision be based on? Again, the policies offered by competing high-rated companies are IDENTICAL. So you compare price and service. But how do you decide which companies to include in your comparison? You include the companies that you know about. And how do you know about them? Advertising.

Numerous people cant stand the commercial. Won’t be the first company on my mind and many others when deciding a huge decision like insurance. Look at ads for insurance like The General or even Progressive. More info is given about the product and also done not in a ridiculous way. I am more interested in doing my research on those companies.

My final comment: Every national commercial on any product is focus group tested with its targeted demographic - which may or may not include you.

My final comment. I have sat in on my share of product tests. Just because we can agree that Liberty Mutual most likely did this does not mean the have a winner with these commercials. Plenty of products have bombed because of poor advertising

When I watch the Yankees games on Prime Extra Innings 80% of the commercial air time is the Nike "Swoosh High School" ad. In the last 3 weeks I must have seen it a thousand times. I've come to despise it more than any other spot I've seen in my life.

This, in a nutshell, is the only downside to MLB.TV streaming. Same horrible three commercials, over and over.

Like, you're excited to get a "Cologuard" spot just to mix it up a bit.
