Is it safe to say Pike has the momentum now?

I know Griffiths is on board. And I personally feel good about where things are heading. (Not an insider, just a fan).

We tend to get a feel for recruiting based on those interested and visits.

I feel like turning the season around last year and getting back to the NCAA’s not only saved, but boosted recruiting.

I’m just curious if those of us in the “Pike needs to get some big dawgs” crowd feel the same way.

Are we where we need to be in your eyes?

Need coaches who can coach guys up too. Hill Jr, Rice Jr and Eddie Jordan all brought in guys who were highly regarded recruits, but none of them played to the level of RHJ, Geo, Caleb, etc.
Eli Carter was pretty legit tbh

Mack was solid as well

Actually I think our big play is what’s been most improved since Pike has taken over.

I will say that he typically gets his top guy and nobody seems to give him credit for it. That top guy has just been higher and higher in the rankings as time has gone on.

Hopefully he has momentum this time in the sense that he can get 2-3 big names. We’ll need to see but he’s off to a great start.
Except for Cliff, his recruits have been mostly 3 star or fringe 4 star guys.

Right, and the level of his top target has generally been improving over time, if not the full class. Not all 3 and 4 stars are created equal.

In terms of stars, he essentially went from Doucoure as his top add, to Mathis and Ron (can’t remember who was higher priority, I know Mathis was higher rated), Paul, Cliff, Jones (reclassified), Simpson (lower ranked but by most accounts underrecruited), and now GG. Pretty clear general progression
Yes I’d agree it’s been a natural progression over time.

Gavin was the big one for me, obviously Cliff too, but it was the splash he needed IMO.

I recall, before the start of last season, people were questioning Pike's ability to recruit quality players. Are those people still around?

Me personally, my stance was in the middle. I always said he needed something to happen to change the moment. Luck, or a big pull, anything. I wasn’t sure at that point either way. But I’m glad the ball bounce the way it did.

Threads about recrutiing should be about names of players and the competition rather than debating Pikiell status as a recruiter.A big part of Rutgers success has been via player development which is a seperate aspect from recruiting.

I was one of them. I didn’t feel his production as a court on the coach was matching up with recruiting.

I felt we should have seen a larger splash considering the turnaround we saw.

I was also frustrated we weren’t in it with any of the national jersey guys.

With that said, him landing Gavin certainly changed my opinion.

Lol. You can pick the one word that makes you feel better. Lol. Just ignore the big pull part. Lol. Typical message board brain. Lol.
Lolol. But why would you type the word “luck” if you didn’t think that luck was a reason for Pike’s recruiting success? It’s your word, not mine.

Own your words, bro!

and the reason I am laughing so damn much is it is absolute bonkers to thinks that good R Hoops recruiting is due to the coaches being lucky. I mean, have you been watching the last 30 years?!?! Lolol

To me, kids like to play in a nice arenas. The practice facility was the first step but heading over to the RAC to see the condition of the home arena had to be a big negative. The building is one of the big eyesores on livingston campus. I lived in the quads at a time when nothing was positive about being on that campus. But now that you have the new dorms, restaurants, business school and the APC, everything looks shiny and new; except jersey mikes arena. And the inside looks every part of being old with the pull out bleacher seats and bathrooms like you see in an elementary school. Putting lipstick on a pig is no way to go through life! And that doesn’t mean we need a brand new place from scratch. We simply need a full makeover on the inside and outside!

That building is the only thing that’s not Big 10 about our program. Now, it will be and that will be a huge positive in recruiting. Just my opinion but something I really believe in.

“Are we where we need to be in your eyes?” As far as inviting those who have been so hyper-critical of the recruiting to express any new views…I didn’t care yesterday, don’t give a sh*t today, won’t give a f*ck tomorrow.

Do you think Luck has never been a part of recruiting in the history of sports? Was LUCK not a part of a whole sentence that included, OR? It baffles me that you can’t comprehend my whole sentence. But again. If that’s what help you sleep at night have at it.

TJ Ford Jr, went to Texas, NBA
Bronny we all know
Zion Augmon, maybe in relation to Stacey Augmon UNLV
Ray Allen Jr. Pretty well known
I see 2 Boozer 2025, twins from Carlos Boozer?
Kwame Evans, didn't he go directly to NBA or spent 1 yr at Md.
Edgerrin James Jr didn't follow his father to football

You are making a big deal out of nothing. No one thinks Rutgers hoops has good luck recruiting with all of our near misses over the past 30 years! I just thought is was really funny you wrote that we have good luck. I meant no harm. Have a laugh and have a beer. All good bro. Peace.

I must have misunderstood your intention. Lol. Trust me, I’ve been following as long as I’ve been able to. And been an RU only fan (lol) since the beginning of Eddie’s last year. I hear you man. Lol. I’ll take luck, black magic, magic 8 ball, whatever at this point. Lol.

Thanks. And if Pike and staff can get some really good luck going with the work ethic they have, plus their player development, we are going to have a tough time showcasing all of our B1G championship trophies!

Go Knights!

Agreed. I’ve always said in all of my posts… everything is here. We just need that NEXT level of recruiting. And I think we’re on the way. Let me know if you go to Miami. Maybe we can chat it up and have a round. Take care!

Things don’t change overnight. He also got robbed of the recruiting momentum of playing in the first Dsnce in 30 years in 2020. Patience is a virtue. If people can’t see why Pike was/ is the right guy compared to the miserable years we have had prior they need their head examined.

People have their opinions and you’ve got to let things play out. These things can change on a dime pretty damn quickly.

I do have one more remaining concern regarding Pike, but I need to see what happens over time with the NIL stuff before I dive too deep into it.

I’ve also kind of accepted that I shouldnt expect a really efficient offense and just judge Pike off defense.
