Do we have any idea of this kid's O? Does he have one?

Hoping he's not just an empty uniform on O.... he's got to be able to shoot from 3's / mid range to present a threat and keep the other side guessing.

4 on 5 on O is not a good recipe for a W's.

If RU brings in a top notch combo or another shooting guard, Miller will move on. He may be asked to redshirt this year.

Anyone with the speed he showed on Defense will certainly be able to use that speed to penetrate. And he develops the outside shot in the off-season. That's why he was supposes to redshirt but his pressure defense was needed.

Rmemeber years ago when there were "shooting camps" in the summer? I wonder if they are still around. The way he plays D and with his quickness, even if he becomes an ok shooter, that would be great

Simpson should see a lot of non-conference minutes so that he can show his stuff. He has some polish to his offensive game already. He may be highly underrated because he plays within team concepts and under control.

No offense, but I for one would LOVE a Pete Maravich or a Calvin Murphy to put his stamp on RU! Seriously, what players don't play within a team concept? What does that mean or look like?

My eye test conclusion was that Jalen Miller's defense was overrated and that his value was more in the energy he brought than any actual defensive impact.

BUT the numbers say he had a very big defense impact. Filtering out the games against crappy teams and garbage time, Rutgers allowed 1.08 points per possession without Miller on the floor. With Miller out there, they allowed 0.96 points per possession. I can't totally write that off especially since a lot of the other on/off stats confirm my eye test (we got shredded when Oskar and Agee were on the court, we were better with McConnell on than off, the offense fell off a cliff when Ron sat, etc).

#2 - Geo clone (but without step back j)
He may need to learn some “selfish” moves to get up good mid range shots… Looks like Lenape had some versatile dudes and they basically played five big guards at one time.

There is video on Miller’s offense from high school. Seemed to have all the tools — could penetrate and score in traffic and knock down treys. He’s capable and will likely show it this season, assuming he puts his mind to it and gets the green light from our coaches.

Maybe you need some glasses for those eyes. He clearly had a big impact on the defense when he was on the court and I don't need advance stats to see that.

I see his floor a guy that gives us good/great D and puts pressure on the opposing guard and plays 10 MPG. I'll wait and hope to be surprised on offense. He had a lot of value to the team last year and I don't see that changing this year.

Quite frankly if he isn't a good shooter I don't want him to shoot.

Hijacking the thread.....what I hope to see is Spencer and Simpson being too good not to play during crunch time....you would then see Paul Simpson Caleb Spencer and Cliff on the floor. Under that hopeful scenario I could envision Jalen and Mag having close seats to the coaching staff being parts in offensive/defensive substitutions.

Not my base case, but I'd love to have that problem.

This thread needs to hijacked. It's really dumb. Judging a true freshmen's offense in a year where he was scheduled to redshift to work on his offensive game but played because his defense was needed.

Even if he starting shooting a little bit. He is still some time away from being able to really help. He's a developmental player. Simpson is too. He wont be ready either

You have no idea how Miller is developing over the summer and into the fall before the season starts in November.

Like a lot of guys, the biggest jump is from my Year 1 to Year 2.

Did you expect Geo to come in and be ready to play starter minutes as a frosh?

Geo was better than I thought for sure, but he also joined when we were a 3 win - in league play team. We are taking much more seriously now - compared to back then. I thought Ron, Mathis, Caleb - could all help right away. My expectations for Miller last yr, and Simpson this yr just don't match them. Simpson has full games on YouTube, idk how anyone sees a B10 contributor from day 1. Its very similar to the confusing Jalen Miller hype, from last yr

This! I see great things from this kid. He’s the next defensive player of the year in the big 10 and of course he can score. He was looking to get on the floor and help out. Defense was that spot. He can shoot and penetrate.

Ultimately don’t think he’ll get enough minutes to qualify for major awards, but definitely a contributor and glad we have him.

well, it was a bit hit and miss.. especially early on. he would get lost out there at times and became a spectator. but Pike demands a lot from a D and it is a real Team D... experience will count for a lot. imo, kids like this now know what it takes and have a chance to develop into an athlete who can provide what it takes. Come to think of it, this is almost preferable to too much success too early because now he knows the effort it takes instead of having experience with seemingly effortless success. We'll all see if he steps up (I think he did by end of the season and I wonder if getting to see McConnel's effort on D helped him a lot) . Same for everyone else.

No one said he's going to transfer today.

They said "if" he gets recruited over and doesn't see much playing time by the end of the season he "might" transfer.

None of that will be the case right now

He might transfer. He might get the Peter-Kiss-Off. Least likely thing is a red shirt.

More than Miller taking jumpers, I want to see Miller drive and finish or drive and dish. We lack players who can get to the lane and he has the quickness for it. His HS tape showed good finishing on drives with both hands too I believe. If he doesn't take a shot when the ball is swung to him, he has to be able to attack the rim at least
