Can we let the old obnoxious threads die?

Link to them if you want to refer to them..

Did we really want folks to come to this board and see those headlines?

I don't like it, I can't imagine the reaction of casual fans or recruits' friends, etc

Let them die.

Kyk and angry Charles were wrong.
So were those who agreed with them.

Ok. We can all move forward, not back.

I agree with zap. Posters should consider that recruits and families read the board. I made a comment the other day in a similar vaIn about posts that wind up glorifying our competitors. (Aka why would anyone go to school x, inviting a hundred reasons why .there are a multitude of reasons that kids should want To come play for pike

If this is your concern then it's best to do away with free boards and make the site premium only for football and basketball like a lot of other sites I've tried to browse are.

Unfortunately, the reality is that many of those posters start new threads like water every time we lose a game or lose out on a recruit anyway.

Getting called out on it, does help (with some not others) give pause to fresh new negativity posts so it’s not pointless.

I love the free basketball forum.
I don't mind crazy threads.
I just think that there is a time to meet them die.

And that folks who bring them up as a way of putting them down are counter productive.

And to reminded fold that you can refer to them but linking to than instead of reviving them.

They don't deserve to be immortal threads.

And we the forum readers deserve to see them scroll off the board and but be hit by then reach time we log on.

It's both a form of courtesy and the life cycle of a thread .

All I can think of is there’s a handful of members who enjoy the thread titles and have ZERO regard for visitors, parents and recruits who have no idea about posting history or context.
It’s an extremely selfish act….imo
I couldn’t agree more.

The damn original post should have never been made. Posters that make posts like that are selfish, immature and ruin this board.

“Immortal” is pretty extreme for a thread that was started only a couple months ago after the season ended. The subject itself is still active. If you don’t like it, don’t read the continuing posts. There’s nothing offensive, selfish, or problematic to anyone about reflecting on a recent live thread (with a bearish outlook) as the roster shapes up looking a whole lot more bullish than it did when the season ended. During the off-season, I’m not sure you could find a more relevant topic to discuss on a free board.

Now - unfortunately KYK chose to double down on his pessimism ( despite the addition of 2 projected starters that weren’t in his original forecast) but hey - that’s another issue entirely.

The annoying thing is just the Monday morning quarterbacking.

Like oh you mean pike looks like stud recruiter after landing the #28 player like 8 months later? No ****

Not arguing, pointing out there are ways for the toxic threads to go away if there are valid reasons. And explain to me how you are censoring someone by using it if you are complaining about these threads in the place?

I agree completely. Specifically, this applies to the rehashing of threads started after the Lafayette and UMass losses once we turned things around.

However, the bumped thread that sparked this complaint thread does none of this. It’s an active topic, the outcome is still pending, and was bumped following a relevant update (Caleb announcing his return).

Good big picture perspective.
Could probably also bump…let’s say the 10-15 most active threads when these resurface. To try and re-bury the eye sores again.
Doesn’t put them all the way at the bottom and an annoying chore. But it’s an option that is something you can control.

No, the annoying thing is people taking any opportunity to crap on Pike when he's done nothing but win and have the rebuild way ahead of schedule

That’s fair in terms of recruiting I guess.

But to the Lafayette point. It’s like people act like the team wasn’t playing like straight dog water during that point in the season.

Yes they were playing like crap and yes pike takes the heat for it. And yes they played great in conference and yes pike gets credit for that. Both things can be true.

The recruiting thing I go both ways on. No one on this board is a scout. And none of us are pike.

Personally I go off recruiting services. In general, 4 and 5 stars will out perform 2 and 3 stars. So that’s what I look for. So in my eyes he’s done okay, but understand why people have higher expectations considering the on court results.

This wasn’t a case of Monday morning quarterbacking or even someone picking fun making someone eat crow on a comment a poster made that turned out to be a really bad take.

The first thread comparing Pike’s first roster was bumped after Caleb’s return was announced. Nothing wrong with revisiting it at that time. KYK chose to double down and stick with his position even with the additions of Caleb and Cam. After Geo posted with confusion over KYK’s take, someone went ahead and bumped the “Pike nail in the coffin” thread basically as a means of providing the context that KYK seems to just have it out for Pike. I see nothing wrong with the context that either of those threads were bumped in. Whoever doesn’t like it - just don’t read it.

I wonder how much Kyk and the other insane Pike haters dislike the positive titles and threads such as “Pike is one of the best coaches in the country” and “No 28 Gavin Griffiths to Rutgers basketball” and “Pikiell’s Recruitment of Gavin Griffiths”.

These are awesome threads and I love them every time I see them.

Hoping you understand that there's a difference between criticism/"taking heat" after a bad game or stretch of games vs "Nail in the Coffin" / Fire Pike.

Some posters here appear to have a singular agenda.

Also - the thread on rosters that was bumped still has relevance for debate

Okay okay. To be honest I haven’t read them recently. Read the first few that got bumped and then decided it wasn’t worth my energy.

But proceed then I guess.

My only thing is who cares what their agenda is lmao. Just don’t respond to the stuff you think is nonsense and it will die out.

One more thing and then I’m done with this thread.

The idea that bumping threads from the past can have even a marginally negative impact on A fan base’s recruiting and/or the lives of existing players and their families seems pretty silly. I mean, think about it, if there really was validity to that, our fans ought to start setting up phantom accounts on our opponent boards and firing away KYK style posts on their forums and bump them periodically, right?

If anything - I’d think the only thing about a fan forum that might stand out to a recruit would be macro activity level. Active boards are a sign of strong fan engagement.

Good point. There's definitely lines that get crossed and poster history/agendas that need to be taken into account. Look at the silly JY thread he started in the beginning of the season. That was just the first course.

The resurrection of old threads used to bother me as I viewed it as petty, but now I just ignore them. They are more like board clutter to me now.
