He has a lot of injury problems at Nova. Not sure what his status is on all that.

Doesn’t look like did much in 3 years and could barely get minutes at Nova.

I realize it’s Nova but if he couldn’t get more than 10 mins a game after 3 years he’s probably not a kid we should be going after.

Edit: didn’t realize he had injury problems.

Agreed. Definitely has talent, another NJ guard that didnt quite fit the Nova mold. His counterpart Scottie Lewis thrived at UF. Weird directions their careers took individually.

I thought this was known - but some of these kids play ball in places they are not from. Bryan Antoine is not a Jersey kid, he's from New York.. Just like Rahsool Diggins is not a Philly kid, he's from NJ

I live in Westfield. My son played AAU in fifth grade with Antoine. Pretty sure he was living in Matawan, NJ at the time. 100% certain he was not coming from New York to Monroe, NJ for practice

“Didn’t quite fit the Nova mold”? Villanova is deep with talent every year. And the way the games are contested these days with a myriad of breaks in the action and reviews of plays, most terrific teams do not play a lot of players. And I could be wrong about this, but I do not think any of the ratings/measurements criteria reward teams for utilizing lots of players (I.e., the team’s bench).
Find it hard to believe that Rutgers would not find a spot for Bryan Antoine if he is receptive.

That wouldn't be as nearly as uncommon as you think it is. Kids you use addresses to play sports in different places - going way back in time. Even at an early age.

And just looked up Bryan Antoine. Says he's from New York. Jus like on here people said Sool Diggins was from Philly, when he's not

I don't know where he's originally from, but I know that he went to St Mary's in Middletown for at least 7th and 8th grade. Definitely go after this kid. Had some bad luck at Nova. Very talented and from what I heard is a good kid. He was a top national recruit out of high school.

Worth exploring, but you're basically hoping that you are getting the player you scouted in high school. Because of the injuries we don't know where he is today. How many years does he have left to play?

Correct. Antoine played at Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School before he went to Ranney.

I would have preferred to see us go all in on Floyd but I guess there was not enough interest on either side there. We may not take another SG/Wing until Caleb and RH's situations are officially resolved.

I wouldn't say he thrived at Florida. He entered college as a projected NBA lottery pick, scored 8.2 points a game for 2 years and ended up being drafted with the 56th pick in the draft. They both completely snubbed RU.

Not sure where it says he's from New York. Is it possible you're thinking of Scottie Lewis, BA's High School teammate and fellow McD's AA, who was born in the Bronx? Like I said, in 5th grade BA lived in NJ with his father, mother, and younger brother. Beyond that...whatever.

Agree he did not thrive at Florida. He needed to improve his 3-Point shooting and never did so. And the inside baseball was that there was complete relief throughout the program when he declared because he was not a good teammate.

I remember being told both the Ranney kids were from NY. Antoine Villanova profile also says he was born in NY too. Guess he moved to NJ pretty early though

Good kid. But is a shell of his former self. Kid has no confidence in his game right now. When he saw the court. He could not get the ball out of his hands fast enough on O and was physically outmatched on the defensive side of the ball.

That's how it seems. I wasn't able to watch him play, but based on his recent stats you can't help but have some concerns about how his various shoulder, knee, and other injuries may have affected his ability/shooting/confidence. I guess seeing a current workout and results of a physical exam might diminish some of the risks...

Stats-wise, he played in 20 games this season after missing the first 2 months due to a patellar tendon knee injury, playing a total of 200 minutes and averaging 10 minutes per game. .. 10-42 FG (23.8%), 5-29 3PT (17.2%), 4-4 FT... In 19 of those 20 games he didn't attempt a foul shot... And his shooting didn't improve during the season.. 3-16 FG and 2-12 3PT in the final 10 games, and 2-11 FG and 1-9 3PT in the final 5 games... Gotta feel bad for him.

If Coleman Hawkins enters the portal- I would go after him before Antoine. We are already a thin roster/lacking talent - we don't need to add injured players
Love Hawkins since we recruited him. He would be a massive addition and would cement Rutgers as a contender in the B1G

I watch a fair amount of nova basketball (wife alumni). I root for the kid. His mind doesn’t remember being a strong athlete much less a basketball player. You can tell he lacks confidence. He plays nervous, too fast on O and too slow on D. I hope he gets it sorted out.

Little Archie was getting playing time over him. That’s not a great sign.

Rutgers has more than enough guards and small forwards. The missing link is a prototype power forward that can score and rebound which has been lacking for decades.

True 4’s are just hard to find (especially now). Plus when you have a roster full of 6-5, 6-6, 6-7 players you have tons of flexibility.

If a player lacks confidence, Pike could be the cure. He's relentlessly positive and supportive and will do everything he can to build Antoine's confidence back up

You could argue Ron was the prototype for the modern 4

If they want him here, they see a fit that’s worth taking a chance on.

Yep. Change of scenery could be what’s needed. Rooting for the kid.

If he"s a guard that doesn't fit the Nova mold, does that mean he can't shoot?
