We are going through this with Caleb right now, just not as blunt or public.

Also came through in a slightly different way for Cliff who also considered leaving.

Care to elaborate? Do you have inside information on this.

All part of the process. Teams are finding out what they can and can’t do. Paying subpar players more money than your incumbent stars is a no go. This will all work itself out in the coming years.

Only going on Richie’s comments on the subject
Which comments led to believe that Caleb’s negotiations have anything to do with deals that other kids on our team are getting and now he wants more? Sorry but I just don’t see it. Sounds like his negotiations have been about neutralizing the income he’d be giving up to go abroad. That’s completely
different.

Hardly anything had been said of Cliff with NIL outside of hiring an agent to help with international law issues on how he can be paid.

There are differences to be sure

It’s not similar at all. In fact it’s the complete opposite. Caleb recently Tweeted out how much he loves Rutgers. He’s not threatening to enter the portal if Rutgers doesn’t meet his NIL demands.

What that Miami kid is doing will hopefully give other gold mine schools some pause on insane transfer and incoming frosh NIL deals. Could truly be locker room killers.

Major stretch comparing this with Caleb and Cliff. Major.

I know you’re a huge supporter of NIL but these situations have pretty much nothing in common haha.

Disagree on that. Certainly high-level similarities at minimum.

Care to elaborate on what these similarities are? Myself and others aren’t seeing them.

Great points by others made on how these situations have virtually nothing in common.

Not to come off rude but neither of these statements are true.
Been stated by press here and other sites a few times. No worries you’re not being rude to me I’m only parroting what’s said by accredited outlets when it comes to the the NIL piece.

Saying neither considered leaving RU and neither looked into better understanding their NIL opportunities if they stayed would be far fetched and fly in the face specifically in regard to cliffs recent nil action and considerable front office interest which I know to be true.

What outlets commented on Cliff and NIL?

There’s literally nothing similar other than that they both may involve NIL negotiations.

In the case of Rutgers, any NIL arrangements in discussion would serve as an insurance policy to neutralize the risks of returning to school and help rationalize passing up on income that would be earned by going pro.

This Miami kid had a good NIL deal in place that he was happy with and then got pissed off when another kid coming in for an even better offer.

At the end of day I think evaluating off season opportunities elsewhere and understanding what your NIL opportunities are if you stay is common place and most players do it. It’s very similar to what this guy did, except what this kid did was do that pre work and take it one step further and go this situation isn’t good enough for me to stay so if it’s not better I will leave and just made that next step public because he’s not as happy with his options.

So the motive isn’t similar but the high level concept of understanding your NIL worth at existing school when considering leaving is similar.

Totally fine

At a 50,000 foot level what this kid is doing is similar to Caleb/Cliff, but basically only in the sense that it’s within the realm of NIL and they are assessing their options.

After that there’s essentially no similarities.

So Caleb isn’t really “going through this” and Cliffs situation is a whole lot more than “slightly different” like you initially said. Total different situations but your statements are acting like they’re similar.

You’re also misinterpreting or mis representing what media outlets, including what @Richard Schnyderite have told us which isn’t cool.

"Similar to Caleb, I’m told NIL could sway things. I still lean towards RHJ staying in the draft, but never say never."

"Sounds like a no and nope the plan is to wait and see what Caleb does first, then make a decision. As I stated in the pod coming out soon, it's possible NIL could be a factor here."

"Yes I do and rumors are NIL is a factor. Big time factor, as he is strictly holding a ship for him until he decides. They likely won't make a move in portal or be mentioned with anyone until he decides. If McConnell leaves then the priority will be a wing."

So there are similarities and Caleb is going through "this" with "this" defined as NIL opportunites available to him as a Rutgers athlete are factoring into his thought process on whether to stay ar Rutgers another year or not. Differenece as hes not publically holding his school hostage, threating publicly to transfer, etc.

Cliff had zero intention of ever leaving. Yes he’s getting an nil agent now because it’s very tricky as an international student so he needs to be careful. Caleb is definitely learning more about NIL and how it could help him. But that’s not what’s on his mind during his pre draft process. I’m just saying that the statement that both considered leaving because of nil isn’t true.

Again, other than Caleb and Cliffs situations being within the realm of NIL or that they are assessing their options….none of what you just pasted from Richie supports your claim that their situations are similar to Wong.

Did you even read the details of Wongs situation haha?

How about you explain the similarities as pretty much everyone here is not seeing your point.

Also - you made the explicit claim that Cliff was considering leaving. This point was challenged by someone very close to the situation. How about conceding on this?

Wong "if I don't get a better NIL package I'm leaving Miami"

Caleb (privately) "if I don't get a good enough NIL package to compensate overseas potential I'll leave Rutgers and go pro"

Rutgers board: "these situations aren't remotely similar"

See cliff above. Obviously believe Geo here as well.

This would be a great comparison if the audience was a bunch of 2nd graders, who didn’t yet have the mental capacity to realize the situations are hardly similar.

No - it’s literally polar opposites. If Caleb returns and secures a NIL deal, that outcome will be representative of how NIL can result in kids who otherwise may not have stayed in school ended up continuing on to earn a degree or get a Masters.

The Miami kid wasn’t thinking of leaving. He planned to return to Miami - signed an agreement that he was happy with until he learned someone else had negotiated better and would get more.

Look - in corporate america, if you accept an offer for a $70k office job and then a few months after you start you find out that another analyst who has less experience than you was just offered $90k - it’s unlikely your going to barge into your new boss’ office and demand a raise or threaten to leave. Good luck finding something else if you do that. For the sake of collegiate sports, I sincerely hope this approach backfires on the Miami kid and other teams decide he’d be a locker room cancer and distraction.
