First off I'm not Monday morning quarterbacking in this post. Our guys played there hearts out just didn't go our way had chances to extend leads and couldn't do it. Got to tip your hat to ND even though they make me want to puke. Any way next year Pike is going to earn his paycheck. He's gonna have to prove that his philosophy of getting under recruited guys and developing them over 4 years works. This team next year has pieces with Paul and cliff time to develop guys around them. Let's go Pike earn that contract we've seen how well he develops players. Look at the leaps cliff made this year, turned Caled into DPOY, developed EO, Myles, RHJ, and Geo. He can do it we need to add some players from the portal obviously. But I saw some posts last night freaking out about where is our offense gonna come from. Let's worry about that once we know what the roster will look like. We aren't same old rutgers anymore. We're a place where guys know they will have a legit shot to make the NCAA tourney and play in the best league in the country.

Yeah I'm well aware next year is a rebuilding year. Just saying obviously we're losing a lot next year let's see how well he develops these guys who are coming back! I think he will do it just fine by the way we have talent on this roster coming back let's see how he molds them together.

Yeah, sorry, that was overly harsh. I know you're not one of them but there are people calling for Pikiell's head this season. I'm gonna hate to see how this board handles a 13-18 season

It's all going to depend on how the roster looks next year. No expectations right now considering we don't know what the roster looks like. Just show me signs of development in the underclassmen with some of them taking on bigger roles and improving and ill be happy. We aren't a blueblood were going to have years where we take a step back.

I think we may be attacking the portal this off-season. A lot of the attraction is big time PT. With geo on the fence and Ron and Caleb here, last off season we didn’t look like a good landing spot. Now a B1G player with cliff/Paul and a good backing crew could attract a couple bigger transfers

I’m fine with a “rebuilding” year filled with incoming young talent, and not just grad transfers to plug holes (provided we even get that). We don’t have that right now though.

This is a very fair point. IMO, we don’t need to rebuild next year if we win the portal. Get someone who can score 12-14 per game, give me a true PG, and find some front court beef that can play. These guys are out there every year now. And, if we don’t get them, yes, it’s a rebuilt year and we probably don’t get to .500.

WE have no idea at this point what Caleb and Ron will definitely decide. Maybe just maybe one or both might decide to return for one more year. Either or both would be welcomed back with open arms.

The kid from Lafayette would be a huge get to spell Cliff.

Need somebody (multiple guys if necessary) to replace Ron/Geo
Hope Simpson pans out to play point guard.

With the resources we have now, why is 13-18 acceptable?

The implication when you call something unacceptable is that something should be done if it happens.

Do you think the administration should take action at the end of next season if we go 13-18? If not then fill in the reasons why the answer is "no" and you just answered your own question.

I don't think we will be 13-18 next year.

Remember, there are people on this site who are not actually Rutgers fans. They are fans of other schools who for some sick, stupid reason pretend to be Rutgers fans. Some are on here all the time, some only show up in the various negative, anti-Rutgers threads we see today. Some use Rutgers references in their names.

Next year, this team will take the next step in the evolution of a Pikiell team.

2016-17 reg 14-17, 1-1, 17-18 reg 13-18, 2-1, 18-19 reg 14-16, 0-1
2019-20 reg 20-11, Cov, 20-21 reg 14-10, 1-1, 1-1, 21-22 reg 18-12, 0-1, 0-1

Just think of the type of one dimensional talent that was on this roster in those first three years and compare the transition of that talent from those first three years to the development and transition of the players in years 4 through 6. All the information and knowledge of three straight winning seasons and winning culture from guys like Geo, Ron, Caleb, whether the stays or goes, and Paul has been passed down to Cliff, Aundre, Mawot, Dean, Jaden, Jalen, and Oskar and the incoming freshman Derek Simpson and Andre Woolfork. That is how a foundation and winning tradition is built. We will be fine next year, it is not a rebuild. We might start off a little slow, maybe a UMass type loss might happen early getting used to playing with each other against a tough live opponent instead of playing against each other but most of these guys have been playing with each other on the 2nd team in practice for the last 2 years. This team looks nothing like the teams in thode first three years, whether you want to believe it or not. We won't be 13-18, 14-17, 15-16 or anything like that or lower. We will find the right pieces needed in the off season.

It is a must for Pike to grab important pieces out of the portal.. I like Jaden Jones and derek Simpson but they are young and inexperienced and we need seasoned scorers next year

After the way he scored last night, maybe Caleb comes back next year with the goal of being name the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.

A good analogy I can use as an example of why we won't take a step back next year is when you have multiple children and the younger ones always tends to be smarter the older ones. When you have that first child, that child learns everything from his parents, the 2nd child learns from his parents and 1 older sibling, the third child learns from his parents and 2 older siblings and so on. We haven't had a coach as successful, stable, and built it the right way as Pikiell in a very long time to where next years team will be his seventh season, "child", learning from the prior six seasons, "older siblings", to learn from, 4th, 5th, and 6th season, "children", all achieving honor roll status for that 7th child to learn from. I don't see next year having any kind of drop off or rebuild despite the inexperienced but highly talented team.

100%. I think he already proved it but whatever I guess. Next year is probably a rebuilding year but I expect Pike to land a transfer that can make an impact. I guess we’ll see.

With some of the experts on this board?

In the first close game early in the season or a loss to a bad team, the hire Pitino crowd will be vocal.
