I care as much about how many bench points we had as I do how many points we had from the right side of the floor. Which is to say, not at all, apart from their contribution to the total number of points.
Pike is honestly fine, but things need to be worked on.
I still think he needs to bring in an OC that understands his defensive philosophy.
He needs to work on inbounds plays.
He needs to accept that not everyone is going to be a defensive superstar. All off season we heard about J Jones and since he doesn’t play the level of defense Pike wants, he doesn’t get time. Well ****, wouldn’t he have wanted Jones with experience tonight so he doesn’t need to play Mag and Hyatt at the same time for an extended period?
These are 3 major points he needs to take seriously.

Back to the topic of this thread, the premise that the HC deserves a lifetime contract is based on what? It certainly can’t be his tournament results, must be because he got us to the tournament for a couple of years I am guessing, well to be perfectly honest that might be worth a contract extension, but a lifetime contract, seriously? Why do Rutgers fans always go off the deep end for coaches that simply bring our programs up to a respectable level? We should start demanding excellence from our athletic programs like most top tier athletic universities, rather than celebrating and settling for mediocrity. Coach obviously should not be fired or put on the hot seat at this point, but at what point do we start holding him accountable for not advancing in the tournament?

I’d prefer a different inbounds passer going forward but I disagree on the OC. Brandon Knight is his offensive coach. He learned from Ben Howland while at Pitt. Hard nosed defense and super slow half court sets against more talented squads. Howland only sped his offense up once he got to UCLA and got more natural scorers. Once his assistant, Jamie Dixon, took over at Pitt, it was the same mentality. That style is what it took to knock off the Big East darlings. And Dixon has implemented that at TCU. They’re 245 in adjusted tempo. They hit the glass to win big games. Rutgers is never going to run a great offense with scorers at 5 positions like Purdue or Iowa. Defense, efficient offensive possessions, and rebounding have to be their game to continue to compete in the Big Ten.
Sorry, but it took me awhile to post, but you and all of the negative posters can go f!#$ yourselves; at the end of the day, players have to make plays, and they clearly didn't. That's the deal; Pike had an experienced team and they couldn't execute the plays and play simple defense against slower players. Sorry, that's the deal; players have to make plays and Notre Dame make more, simple as that. I'm pissed, but that's the deal. Please stop acting like you can solve the problem by firing Pike and magically hiring someone else....
