Recruiting Remains The Issue

Cliff was the most athletic player on the floor by a wide margin and he got used by a very average big. And our talent was clearly better. But, yes, the bench gave us nothing.

Not so sure our talent was much better. All their kids seem to be able to shoot and read the defense exceptionally well. Their players may not be as athletic but have multiple skills. They don’t turn the ball over either. Their passing was far superior to ours. We have a lot of one or two dimensional players.

U realize the backup center scored 18 pts, blocked a couple of shots, hit his free throws. We have nobody who can do that.

I agree but that’s because our defense was awful tonight not because the backup on ND is a talented kid. We made them look a lot better than they are. The irony is they have one elite player and he didn’t do much.

4 stars gonna 4 star...2 stars gonna 2 star...2* recruiting will not work over the long haul...just won't.

and 3 of them are gone next year. And they made up 64 of the 87 points tonight. Who the hell is the offense next year????????????????????????

Pike needs to bring in some grad transfers
Spot on comment than needs to be expanded to recruit shooters to replace Harper and Baker. In the last two seasons Rutgers will have loss more than 40 points in scoring and the current bench has been deeply disappointing.

Not athletic? Lol you’re another one who needs to piss off.

Go root for PSU. You only post after PSU games and losses.
Pike fans’ one-two punch against any criticism about Pike:
1. Go root for PSU
2. Go root for Seton Hall

I believe all of the Notre Dame starters were 4 star recruits. We only have one.
We had 2. Harper was a 4 star. Our young guys didn't develope the way we hoped this year. Our starters out played there 5 4 stars. Bench didn't score one point.

The coach is responsible for the entire roster, not just the starters. Honestly, look down that bench and tell me there is a talented skilled player there. You can't. The bench doesn't produce because it is filled with MEAC-level players.

How the hell did we make the tournament 2 years in a row and would have been 3.

smh

Bench sucked this year for the most part had some good little stretches. But guys will develope and find there roles. Plus we will add more talent. Will it be enough for another tournament bid? Idk but will be competitive again.

1. We r slow of foot. Guards are slow.
2. We r not athletic. From a bench perspective that's true.
3. We have an embarrassing bench of unskilled players. True.
4. No take over player. True for the bench.
5. We got nothing in portal. Last year, yes, but previous years he did o.k.

But, he does get the most out of these players and is good at development. He is our best coach since Tom Young.

I agree, Rutgers should be recruiting players that are fast, athletic, elite shotmakers, and with a great basketball IQ. Wonder why the staff hasn't done that.

And yet, despite the supposed lack of talent, athleticism, and skill, Pikell has led RU to 2 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (it would have been 3 if not for COVID) while beating the best teams in the B1G. There's been a lot of mediocre to awful basketball at RU for over 30 years. I'm willing to trust Pikell to figure it out. He's been light years better than all of the post Tom Young coaches.

I don't think his recruiting strategy works and is an excuse for not being able to close on better players.

Then he must be the best coach in the history of college basketball if he cannot recruit but goes to three straight ncaa tournaments something that has never been done at RU before

Great Post!!!!

Sad thread. Just let pike do his thing. It’s gotten us to the dance 3 times in a row. Which as a Rutgers fan I’ll take anyday lmao.
I guess that is how they are marketing the pigtail rounds, but anybody who follows college basketball knows that the actual tournament doesn’t start until Thursday. We made it to the play-in round this year, let’s keep it real. Still give Coach credit, he resurrected a season that was thought to be lost after the Lafayette game.
