To me it’s good defense, to body-up to your man, stand your ground and deny forward progress. The man with the ball can still back out of it. ******** rule, should be abolished, imo.

Agree. Unnecessary rule. Need to trust the officials to make difficult calls and the over engineered something to try and take the onus off them.

Similar with the flop. Put the accountability on the official and coach them on the situations.

I didn’t know it could be called on review . I thought the point of the review was limited to whether or not there was a flagrant. I did not know it opened the review to everything. That means if you want something reviewed cry flagarant foul

This made me hate the cylinder rule even more. “Harper took an elbow to the chin, let’s review that. Wait a minute, he was playing tight defense, that’s not allowed. Let’s cylinder his *** and reverse the call.”

Of course you hate it. Because the only team it is ever enforced against is Rutgers.

I've been watching college basketball for 40 years and have never seen this called ever. Twice on us in the past two or three years. But we will continue to try and rationalize that the referees are not f****** us.

How does that saying go? You can't expect others to respect you if you do not respect yourself first? Half this fan base applauds the referees for f****** us each and every time.

It's pathetic.

More stupidity.

Cylinder is literally one of the most important rules in basketball.
Otherwise the defender could literally stand on top of the ballhandler.

And it's not good defense. It's lazy defense to just on the ballhandler.
Good defense is staying in position.

You can say the enforcement has been an issue but the rule itself is vital.

At least 3 nonsensical statements in this post.

You are really making statements that had no place in the game for 100 years until they put that stupid rule in. As long as you are straight up , you can be within in 2 inches of the opponent. That is what was applauded for years as teams got up in people’s shorts without fouling or touching the player. Ron was straight up , never touched Murray as he brought arm down to Ron’s chin. Th defender did nothing to impede the offensive player. Any other argument is just trying to justify a terrible rule that the rules Committee has to look into to abolish next year. It is an embarrassment to teams that are able to play good defense without fouling.

Yes Caleb against Pitt iirc and Paul vs. ?.
Guess you should never hit the ball handlers elbow with your chin.

When 2 defenders are smothering a player that is trapped, why isn't the rule called then? Isn't that a cylinder violation? And why haven't I seen this rule called more than a few times over the last few years?

Just saw it called a charge in Iowa game against idiana. Trusant stuck his head way closer than Harper did and even made contact. Called a charge on the Hoosiers
That was just a bad call as Touisant leaned in and threw his body forward. Just a bad call. Opposite the cylinder rule.

Let's face it. Chin inequality.

Remarkable that players are allowed to hook and push off while driving and pound a standing player while backing into the rim but this is a foul that needs to be called on the defense.

Watched a little of the St. John’s game the other day. Montez Mathis was right under his players chin, no foul called for being in the cylinder. It’s the ref who calls fouls or not.

Can't support a rule that allows you to elbow a guy in the mouth and have a foul called on HIM.
