But more offensive weapons are needed. Hopefully we get that next season….

For now, let’s hope we bring the A offensive game in the Tournament!

We were once again last in the conference in 3pt attempts per game.

The response will be "that's because we don't have 3pt shooters" just like every other year.

At some point that needs to change from an offensive philosophy and recruiting standpoint though to take the next step towards the top of the league and CBB as a whole.

We should take more threes but some people don’t want us to take any because sometimes we miss a bunch in a row.

Defense was missing today. The offense scored 74 points and should have scored at least another 10 points with missed layups and dunks.Three point shooting has been mediocre for most of the season.

I also agree we should be taking more 3s. preferably from the inside out. Drive into the paint force the D to collapse even if just a little , kick it out and by all means (and most importantly) MAKE IT.

this is how you win in college basketball.

I think on 3 point shots:
1. we don’t set them up enough to free up the right player to take the shot
2. One of the reasons our % is low because we run down the shot clock and then launch a desperation 3.

Ron walks around too much lurking on O. He’s not aggressive to the ball… at all. Never has been

We took one less three and made one less three than Iowa today.
Missing all those close in, far fewer foul shots, and Ron on going 1 for 6 didn't help.
No Reiber, no Hyatt, Paul missed both his. Just a tough day.
But Paul, Geo, and Cliff all had very decent lines today.

It’s not about one game here or there.

It’s about overall offensive strategy and philosophy (and how that impacts recruiting targets).

Obviously HC Pike prefers a defense first - conservative offensive style.
See how we are consistently last in 3pt attempts in conference.

I would posit that maybe moving the sliders a little more towards the offensive end could take this team to the next level.

It’s not even that; we can continue to play the same defense and spend just as much time practicing and focused on defense. We just need to change the shot selection philosophy on offense because we take way way too many mid range shots and not enough threes

One of the main reasons the Eddie Jordan teams were so bad was because Eddie could not teach defense (or rebounding). Which was surprising because Eddie was a great defensive player. If you're a bad defensive team, you have no chance.

Fwiw, when chatting with a former opponent of those teams he said they were out of shape. Not sure if it was a failure to teach defense or a failure to get the guys conditioned to execute.

both Paul and Caleb needed to shoot and not pass when open and getting those passes... Lots of those vs Iowa

Success breeds confidence, and right now neither of those two have been hitting consistently from outside.
