I really thought Archie was a solid hire at the time. I was more skeptical of the Hoiberg hire.

I think people are misinterpreting my post. I am as surprised as anyone here that he was getting another year. Just asking a question to figure out why. The real reason is probably that Nebraska doesn’t give a crap about men’s hoops.

Specifically asked for wholesale changes to how things are done and Hoiberg "supposedly " is on board with.

Another sad statement by an Athletic Director and department that ultimately believes just because they invest money into a product, that results automatically happen.

Unless Hoiberg is going to make the wholesale changes like Brad Underwood did from Years 1 and 2 at Illinois and adjusted their goals to defense and rebounding with less fouling, Nebraska is going to struggle. There's no way to expect a turnaround in 1 season anyway, seems like a lost cause. Whatever changes happen is going to result in assistant coaches getting axed, which means whatever players are there, will transfer or decommit and the cycle will continue.

It was a mistake to fire Tim Miles. Nebraska basketball doesn’t deserve nice things.

Then again.. they might not be. Think they gotta use some of the football money for basketball NILs.

Seems to be another variation of schools relationships with college coaches. If unsure about canning the guy either because you can't afford it or still think there is a chance that one more year might result in a turnaround, you basically negotiate more favorable terms for firing the coach a year later.

With regard to Hoiberg specifically, he had a nice run at Iowa State and then seemed like a fish out of water in the NBA. I thought he was a good hire for Nebraska although I was not sure Miles deserved to get fired. I guess you can take shots at the ability to build a program at a place like Nebraska, but they have a nice arena and the fans support the team despite the limited success. Also think about how well Creighton does and how well they draw in the Big East.
