Was the run fools gold?

It seems like we’ve come back to earth a bit.

Is this the team, or is this a product of Paul having two straight games with foul trouble?

Very curious to see what happens back at the RAC.

It's hard to play at a world beating level night in and night out.

There's nothing wrong with losing to Purdue and Michigan on the road. It's just that they dug such a hole that they now need to be practically superhuman to make the dance. It's a lot of pressure.

What can you say? Wisconsin is just about a must win now. Show up. Be loud.

Lol, why are people incapable of understanding a team is better than it’s worst performances and worse than it’s best?

If by “fool’s gold” you mean we didn’t transform into a top 10 team magically, then yes? Surely you knew that BEFORE tonight?

I mean it doesn’t take a top 10 team to beat a short handed Michigan without their HC. I understand Martelli is no slouch, but the point stands.

The worst performance thing gets thrown out the door tbh. We’re late in the season, this is the home stretch. These are the games that define each team.

Michigan is 26th on Bart and 31st on Kenpom, and we played them on the road. I don’t know how many points the suspensions were worth but the Vegas line seemed to indicate not too many. If you are anywhere outside the top 25 you aren’t expected to win tonight.

I honestly don't know how some people function if they can't handle being on the losing end of a game where they had a 30% chance.

See it for what it is...the OP has pined to be right about Pike being a bad coach going on 3 years now. Only to get embarrassed each time

Hes going to keep posting this rubbish every time we fall down

Pretty sure the guy sports wood every time we lose.

Martelli seems to always have Rutgers' number, even when he was coaching St.Josephs.
That might be true. But if you listened to his interview , he did almost nothing. Howard Eisley and the other assistant was given all the credit for the offense that they ran well because we had no legs to pressure them. We just missed a bunch of open shots tonight so not sure he drew up any defensive schemes. I guess he kept his team calm not throwing punches at other players.

Lol what. You’re a clown dude.

My post is extremely fair. It’s not even really a negative post about Pike or the players. It appears I’m living in your head rent free.

Do you think Michigan is a better team this season? I don’t.

We only had one big road win. We don't recruit elite talent to win with any consistency on the road.

Same as seemingly forever with this team.
For context road woes aren’t just Rutgers and have nothing to do with recruiting. 4 of the b10 teams have winning road records. Plenty of those with loosing road records have 4 and 5 star recruits. 7 teams have same or less road wins than us, plus none have our home record to offset it like we do.

There's winning road records, and then there is 3-9 against quite a few dregs.

Ya, this is really what it boils down to. Making the tourney. If we do, these recent losses can be forgotten, if we don't then the 4 game run was a 4 game run in a missed oppurtunity of a season.

Last nights game was a huge game. We lost. Now Saturday is an even bigger game. Still time for redemption.

Wasn’t fools gold just a defensive team that got hot and had a little luck.

Michigan St was a beat down of an average team where we had the top offensive efficiency output in the country and Wisconsin we shot out of this world - both not sustainable for an offense that isn’t very good. Ohio St was a well put together game and good win. Illinois shot very poorly and got a lot of open quality looks to the point underwood mentioned analytics would say they win that game 90% of the time if it was an average shooting night for Illinois.

We move on and see if we can get some strong play from everyone to put together a few more wins.

can I come back for your annual "Pike sucks and he wont make the tournament thread"? I have really enjoyed you making a fool of yourself each year at this time.

Paul in foul trouble in both games. Inconsistent Geo shows up in the same 2 games is a losing recipe. Of those 4 great wins, Geo had good games in 3 of them and Paul in all 4.

It’s weird how you’ve been radio silent on my posts praising pike and the team this season, but the second they lose and I post a very fair, but not overly positive thread here you are.

Mr. White Knight himself trying to turn this thread to ****.

It’s becoming weird and I really think you might want to consider hitting the bottle early today.

Is Michigan a top-4 team in the Big Ten now because they beat us at home? No. There’s lots of factors. They were of course hyped because of their players and coach out and at one point in the 2nd half were shooting almost 70%. You can’t beat that especially when the refs take your glue guys out of the game early. You are what your record says you are, and we’re 5th place in the Big Ten with 3 games left. Any of us would sign up for this right now

We've seen this season that Rutgers is the kind of team that is capable of beating anyone. They're also capable of losing to anyone.

I don't think anyone predicted the recent rampage through the B1G elite, just as no one predicted the losses in the soft part of the schedule.

Can't have Paul and Geo both with bad games on the same night or the offense will struggle.

Geo didn't attack the rim... at allllllll last game
We were saying this same thing about Geo and Harper a month ago.

So at least we are including more guys in the group. Cliff is in there now too.

I think maybe the real issue is the lack of bench scoring? We are so dependent on a big effort from the starting 5. Maybe that mix changes from game to game, but what we don't get is much of a contribution off the bench.

This is my assumption anyway, not sure how our bench scoring compares to other teams.

Everybody take a deep breath. We lost to a good team, in a place we have never once won a game, on the second leg of a two game 4 Day Rd. trip. RELAX.

The bench can't score if they aren't in the game. Starters are playing heavy minutes

Saw the title of the thread and thought of this.
Anyone else remember this band? I think I went to this show. Went to the Capitol a lot in those days and the mid 70's are a bit hazy so I'm not sure.

I wouldn't call Michigan a "good team" especially without 2 suspended players. They are certainly not as good as many of the other teams we've beaten this year. But I agree that people need to relax and realize that if we can take care of business down the stretch, we should almost certainly make the tournament again.
