Settles just isn't a good announcer IMO. BTN crop is a little weak on the analyst side (I like almost all of their PBP announcers).

Robbie Hummel is terrific.

Len Elmore gives me a nostalgia boost because he used to do NCAA tournament games.

Bardo leans too much on his cliches ("I see you, [player]!") but he's fine. He's only games west of Chicago this year I think.

Andy Katz is a personality, not an analyst.

Brian Butch, Jess Settles, Rapheal Davis... all either forgettable or actively bad.

I like their youth movement in the studio and they are getting better. Young players were are not that far from the game so their perspective is good to hear. I think the Trent Meechum and Rapheal Davis are doing great jobs

Illinois is a good team, a guaranteed tourney team, did you expect the conference announcers to take a dump on them because of a loss?
At the end of the game they were saying what a good team Illinois is, and they can still make a deep run... but that's just being accurate and trying to put things in perceptive for the Illinois fans. I didn't have an issue with it. It just accentuates what a good win it was for Rutgers

I thought they were pretty balanced. Settles wanted to push that he thinks Illinois is a potential final 4 team and he pushed it hard. He also is a big Geo fan, and impressed by the job Pike has done.

I love Davis in the studio.

No, but while the compliments were good, their voices seemed less than enthused for us, and disappointed when Illinois was bricking their way thru first half. My take. Maybe too sensitive. I was at the game and felt it was more US being great than THEM sucking.

Hummel is in a class by himself.

Elmore is silky smooth and Bardo always speaks his mind which is refreshing.

The young guys will eventually find their groove or other new guys will replace them.

At one point said Geo has one of the best jump shots in the country(or conference I forget), which I'd classify as less then accurate, so I think he was overly complimentary for both teams, which should be expected given he is a conference announcer.

He initially said Geo had the best jump shot in the country then tried to walk it back a little

Ya, I agree with him that Geo's step back is near impossible to defend, but it doesn't drop enough to be considered a good shooter, let alone best in the country.

I think the Big Ten gives lashes to announcers and coaches who don’t pretend the Big Ten IS The Country. They want to speak the Big Ten being the best into existence.

Geo easily as the best step back in the conference, so…

Re: talent, Langford is aggressively bad in studio and probably won’t be renewed next year.

Maybe we can chalk it up to misspeak, but having the best step back is different than being the best jump shooter.

And announcers rarely bother me, especially in terms of perceived favoritism as I often find it to be fans being overly sensitive, my point here was that Rutgers was getting oversized compliments as well.

Brandon Gaudin is a terrific PBP guy. Settles was okay as the analyst, but he says too many things that are just over the top (like the comment about Geo having the best jump shot in the country) (though I think he meant STEP BACK jump shot).

Agree. I get the impression that Settles tries too hard to be over the top as if he is imitating Bill Walton. Not sure why he'd want to mimic Walton but that is what Settles sounds like to me.
