Games with potential impact on RU's chances

With RU back in the "bubble" conversation, I'm starting to see which games each day might have an impact on our chances to go to the dance. One that jumps out tonight is Dayton at URI. A Rhode Island win would be very helpful, as they're not in the conversation but Dayton clearly is.

Another is UVa at VPI, which could hand the Cavaliers their 10th loss in a weaker ACC. The Bonnies knocking off St.Louis (17-7) wouldn't hurt.

Probably Oregon losing at home to Wazzou would be good as well though that might elevate the Cougars back into the conversation, after they lost two at home to the Arizona teams.

Lafayette topping Colgate, currently leading the Patriot League, wouldn't hurt RU either.

Thanks. I overlooked that one. It seems that every time I've looked at a WVU score, they had lost so I didn't realize that they do have a winning record but not by much. I would think their game tonight is pretty much an elimination game, unless by some miracle, should one of them win the B12 tournament to get the AQ.

Jerry Palm inexplicably has them in his last 4 in as of today. Its absurd. They are 1-9 vs the field and already have 4 losses. Loser of this is basically out especially if its Kansas State because they would be 13-12

Tough call who to root for. We don’t want to be tied in the loss column with K-State because they are one of the few bubble team with somewhat comparable wins - ours are still better but they don’t have the bad losses and they played a really tough non-conference. Their good wins - @ Texas, TT, @ TCU - @ Wichita and @ Iowa State are decent wins too.

They both have potential to pick u some good wins - but K-State already has a decent resume outside the loss count. They do have the extra loss though.

WVU lost. UVa lost. Two good outcomes for RU. URI didn't help us out, losing to Dayton. Oregon won, which would seem to leave Wazzou out in the cold. But Oregon still has a Pac12 weekend in Arizona and another in Washington, along with an LA weekend at home. So they have a tough rough ahead. It would be nice to see the Pac 12 get only three bids - the UofA, UCLA, and USC, which would be good for RU, assuming that we get to 18 or more wins.

I haven't checked today's schedule yet to see what is on tap that might have an impact on RU.

Tuesday, February 15 games of potential impact, including a few B1G games:

Michigan State at PSU - need MSU to stay in rankings
Duke over Wake Forest - Wake is on the bubble
Ole Miss over South Carolina - keep Carolina from climbing onto the bubble
Florida at A&M - looking like an elimination game
Texas over Oklahoma - hate to root for the Horns but a win keep OU from climbing onto the bubble or knocks them off if they're already on
Ohio State over Minnesota
Wisconsin over Indiana - keeps IU below RU in the standings + gives them their 9th loss
TCU over Iowa State - TCU is quietly 16-6. A win for them probably eliminates ISU, which has a horrible record in conference but is 16-9. Most of ISU's wins came early, the opposite kind of resume from RU's.

I can’t agree with you on this. My opinion here is based on the assumption that the NET ranking will be more important than the eye test. Right now we are at 81. 4 of 7 means we lose the opener of the BIG tournament. Now, who do we lose to. We can’t lose to PSU at home in the finally, that would be a killer lose in the NET. So, we win 3 of the next 5. Those, I believe would all be quad 1 games. Win 3 guard one games and lose two and the NET will move from 81 down to probably the 70, maybe high 60. Beat PSU at home won’t move the needle much but then we lose theBIG tourney opener to a lower seed and our NET, at best, is in the 70’s. That is not a lock. We, because of the NET rankings, need to win at least five or six, counting the tourney, because we can’t afford losses cancelling gains in the NET. Now, if the committee decides the NET doesn’t apply to the Rutgers situation then maybe things are different but if the NET is going to be a factor then we have to win several more than we lose.

Exactly! RU has exposed the issues with the NET. While entire body of work sounds nice…. Reality.

Win 4 of next 7 for me meant either 4-2 in regular season and tourney doesn’t matter OR 3-3 then need to win 1st game in tourney.

We are not a lock if we go 4 & 3. We are squarely on the bubble. That is IF the NET is going to be an important part of the selection. If not, all bets are off. But if it is then look at the net rankings for last year’s tournament. Very few were over 65 unless they were a conference tourney champ. We have work to do. It’s based on who you play. We have 5 quad 1 games coming up. The final PSU game might now end up being a Q2. 3-3 would improve the NET a good deal.
