I think we’ll play well. We usually play well against good teams in loud environments on the road (aside from SHU this year). All our bad away losses were in morgue environments other than IL when half the team had the flu.

If we're hitting our threes...and I am not optimistic about that...and we play with the intensity warranted by playing this team on the road.....we could make it interesting.

These are the analytics breakdowns which are essentially the current Vegas Lines for the rest of the RU season going back to last weekend vs Michigan State. Keep in mind, I don't know how much weight is put on the road vs home, but my guess is, it's just data driven for the entire body of work and as more data is entered in, ultimately impacts these numbers.....RU is in a stretch of 8 straight games where they're a solid to a very significant point underdog.

Michigan State +3.5 WIN by 21

Ohio State +3.5. WIN by 2

@ Wisconsin +9.0

Illinois +6.0

@ Purdue +15.5

@ Michigan +9

Wisconsin +2

@ Indiana +9

Penn State -4

I am not going to say X number of wins will get RU into the NCAAs, but any of these wins the rest of the way, home or away, are weighted significantly in terms of where are metrics have RU projected.

This game could be not close all game and back door cover

We own Indiana. Take those 9 and run

Kohl Center is very very tough place to win. They've lost there twice this season but one was without Johnny Davis. In the last season with fans in the building, they lost only once (Illinois got them by a point). Year before that they lost three times... Two of those were Purdue (made the elite 8) and Michigan State (made the final 4).

Feeling like either we win outright, or we lose by 15+.
Good point. I feel like that’s RU MO in both basketball and football. We’re usually not been the kind of team that makes a blowout look closer than it was at the end once the cat lady officially sings.

FWIW though - I thought we were heading in that direction at the 3:48 mark vs OSU and for once we held strong. And we were dead under water at NW and came storming back. Even though NW was a loss - it felt almost like a turning point for us. Pike figured out during that game (with our subs in) that throwing in a press could be effective in combatting runs from the other team during our scoring droughts. See our full press defensive sets vs OSU after they scored 11 points. It was effective there once again and in spots vs. Michigan State. And of course - Caleb didn’t even allow us to get burned with it on that block. We don’t run it that much but it’s been a huge addition to our schemes on defense - one that’s helped get the offense back on track.

We’ll know in the first 5 minutes whether we’ll be in this one. We have had a lot of no shows on the road. I believe we’re a different (and better) team than a couple of weeks ago.

And one other thing, the fact that we’re so good at home makes our road record seem worse than it actually is. Look at Indiana — they’ve done nothing on the road yet they are considered an NCAA team.

Unless you played sports at a high level, analytics means sh*t when an athletes' heart and desire take over. The final 3 minutes of the Ohio State game is an excellent example. I've witnessed and been one of those athletes who WILL themselves to places Vegas or the opposing teams are unprepared to understand. At some point, you get tired of the BS tossed your way, and you set out to prove everyone is wrong, including some of your supporters/fans.

What I find amazing is how some Rutgers fans jump on and off the bandwagon according to someone else's feelings about the program. We mock PSU and their cult-like atmosphere in supporting their sports, but they stick with their players/programs through thick and thin situations. We just smacked two good teams back-to-back, and it's something we haven't done in a long time. Still, many of you show not an ounce of belief we can win today.

There is a reason why coaches said, "it's us against the world." because it's true. The only ones who believe all the time are the players and coaches in that locker room. I'm one of those who say that the next game is a win even if we are 0-25. That is the mindset you have to have if you expect to succeed.

All that said Cubby, I’m shocked at the home court advantage in college basketball.
Forget our struggles on the road, I’m talking across the board.
I’m one who did play a sport at a high level, it never dawned on me or my teammates playing the Red Sox in Fenway or the Cubs at Wrigley was some huge disadvantage, it was fun to play there.
Yet the home court in college basketball plays out with regularity????

I never understood this, because it looks like a pretty sterile place on TV. Probably more to do with the fact that Wisconsin is usually just a good team

Our record on the road with fans in the stands in 2019-2020 and 2021-2022 is 4-15 with 2 of those wins over nebraska. So people aint wrong to have no confidence in us on the road until we prove otherwise.

All due respect zappa, but hard to compare game/fan atmospheres, and therefore impact, between basketball and baseball.

Agreed. I understand it in football and a little bit in hockey. In football the away team has to go on silent count and therefore the home team defense can time up the snap and tee off on passing downs. In hockey the home team gets the last change to put out their preferred line vs the opposition and they only have a long change one period vs the away team having it twice. Basketball is just noise, so i guess i underrate the energy. Granted i never played sports at a high level but in high school i loved playing on the road and playing villain.

I hear you Sir, but You’ve never been to Fenway or Wrigley if you say that.
If you’re talking into consideration the physicality, it doesn’t play out in football or hockey either.
College basketball is by far unique in this way

Shutting up the home crowd is every bit as fun and energy producing as playing at home imo

I think the ability to hit foul shots enters into the picture in the ability to win close games, either home or especially on the road.

We are shooting over 70% now, but for the most part, we are getting better than that. Other years, for example, when Myles would get fouled, the thought process of the fans and even the team was that was almost like a turnover instead of being free, or fairly easy points and we would not capitalize on it.

If we can reasonably hold Davis down today with scoring, passing and taking over the game, we are very capable of winning today.......

Best of Luck,
Groz

I've been to both...I am not saying there isn't passion at baseball games. I was at the clemens / piazza bat incident game...lol. insanity.

I am just saying that the buzz in a college basketball arena lends itself to much more of a home field advantage than a baseball game

Just my opinion

You think Wisky is not a true Top-15?
I just dont think theyre elite and frankly they lack superior athletes.

at home theyve had some close calls too
1) beat nichols st by 3
2) beat illinois st by 4
3) beat maryland by 1
4) beat penn state by 2

True. And Gard said the other day that he never worries about winning margin. Once the game is in hand, he wants to get his starters out

They have 1 elite player, play tough team defense are extremely well coached.

Rutgers can’t come out flat and fall behind much. Pike cannot allow that to happen

Id like to see RU make a STATEMENT today.
