I did this looking at each game in isolation, just a single ballgame, no ramifications, no “but that game meant so much.” Of course, you do it the way you want:

a) BE Tournament v St. John. (Hey, ref, there’s a game clock);
b) At RAC vs Iowa(2018?) No pool hustler has a trick shot as good as that banked corner.
c) Last year Houston NCAA loss (Tip no good. How could you miss the guy, he’s laying on the floor right in front of you!)
d) Northwestern last week: Down 24 well into 2nd half; tie in OT; lose on clean mid-range look.

Again, out of context I’d go Iowa: Geo hits huge three and then . . . Tragedy.

(I beg, please don’t tell me “It shouldn’t have come down to that.”)

Got any others? Can you rank them?

Less than a week before the RU-St. John's debacle at MSG in 2011, RU lost a one-point heartbreaker at Providence. Mike Coburn's missed free throw sealed our defeat.

If RU had won the game, it would have finished 15-15, which most likely would have put us in the NIT... back when the NIT was eager to invite NY metro teams that finished .500 or better.

Don’t care much about year but was thinking of game in isolation not in terms of how much it “meant,” not to say that other s can’t.

A side note, during the MSU game on tv they put up a graphic that said this year RU has been involved in more one possession finishes (I believe it was 9) than any other team in the country. For me, those final possession losses to 3 teams in a row will be tough to get over if we don’t make it to the NCAA tourney this year.

I just rewatched the last 5 minutes of RU Houston. Ughh the amount of things that needed to go wrong for us to lose that game just made me sick.

Missed alley oop to Myles - if Geo just throws a normal pass its an easy dunk and we go up 10. Followed by made 3 to cut lead to 5.

Grimes missses two FTs and they get the luckiest of tips, the shot was missed so bad it rockets off the rim and grimes hits a deep three.

Then when up 2 late, Mathis leaves his corner and the ball goes to where he was just standing, turnover and they come down and score a 3 pt play.

Geo Turnover, game over.

Ughh that hurt

According to the OP, only mention games since 2010. With that said, the RU-St. John's game in '79 is, hands down, the most deflating loss in RU history.
yeah.. we woulda been Final Four the way things worked out if we had won that game.

There were a few WTF game losses that prevented us from making the NCAAs during our long drought. Seton Hall in whateveryearthatwas.

My choice is the Iowa loss with the deep corner jumper glancing high off the glass and thru the net at the buzzer. Shooter also had a hand in his face from an RU defender.

Have never seen that banked shot go in, ever.

#1 through #9: Houston. Such a gut punch, especially if you were there. Still don't know how we lost that game and I still haven't been able to watch the DVR of the game.

The Arizona State game in '91 in the NCAA's was very similar to Houston in that we had a 9 point lead with about 5 minutes to go. Even though I was there, I cannot recall a single detail, I think I blocked it from my memory.

It's a tossup between Houston last year and St. John's in '79 for the worst. Had a relatively easy path to the Final 4 if we won those.

Keep in mind it was a tipped pass.

That 79 sju gave we had better than twice and we in control and instead of using it advantage we went into a freeze. Uggh. And there remind that Wayne McKoy showed on was an odd carom that out the back or if reach of JB who was in position for the defensive rebound. First game I ever went to and vedeotaped (my brother did). On 2 betamax tapes...
