For the first time ever, I called Knightline after the game because I wanted to tip my hat to Paul's court vision. He seems to have eyes in the back of his head. He, Cliff, and Dean sure seem to be clicking. Mulcahy has one of the best pivot steps I have ever seen in basketball. And those behind the back bounce passes are ridiculous too. He is the heart of our offense.

One of Pauls biggest strengths that reallllly helps with his court vision is his posture.

When he has the rock in his hands his chest, shoulders and head are are always straight up as he goes towards his defender.

And then when he backs down he’s so great at using his body to shield and pivot. Also utilizes the pump fake quite often.

He’s got some old school basketball in his genes and it’s fun to watch.

If Paul continues to play like the last two games....looking for the ball, looking to score, passing, mixing it up, rebounding imo he will be repsondible for getting RU back into the NCAA's (TBD) ....and if he continues the trend into the league playoffs and next year (2022-23)...who knows, maybe NBA .

Again, just my opinion.

We are going to be fine next year.
without a slow start, NCAA is likely.
Northwestern game might have been a blessing in disguise to find formula to the future.
and maybe one that can squeak into the tourney this year.
Still sticking with my Dayton prediction..

Head up always scanning for cutters. Cliff has improved his timing sliding to the rim. Dean has always been smart at it
This! And he is using his strength to bully his defender. He backed down Christie (#5 for MSU) in the lane and got a layup a few times.

For Paul to remain effective passing , he must continue to be credible in looking for his shot going to the basket (which he can make at a high percentage ) …this forces his man to stay oh him (which makes his footwork thar much better by the way) and keeps floor spacing for guys who move away from the ball to him to find

He has changed his game the last game gave him the confidence to shoot first and then look for the pass before that he was always looking to pass first and there were so many times he would have that short shot in the lane and he would miss because he was so fixated on shooting that he would not have proper form and would just shoot a 1 handed shot but last game changed everything and this makes us so much better!!

And also draw the double which is how he finds Cliff so much!!!

If you’re not familiar with his game (like opposing fans) it probably looks like he walks every time he does his pivot work in the paint. But, Paul does a remarkable job of not walking.

Some of his passes remind me of a certain Celtic named Bird. My only complaint is that he hasn’t mastered the alley oop pass yet. Once per half it’s a turnover.

Paul’s been hands down the MVP by leaps and bounds this past week. I started that thread on starting Mag over Paul after the minnesota game. Turns out I’m just another message board idiot 🤪

It looks like traveling because you don't see that kind of pivot foot technique much anymore. It's a lot like when the euro-step was first introduced.

He is now scoring in the paint with 2-3 times a game where before he would kick the ball back outside. I am happy the switch was flipped and he is now shooting and scoring those points. If done earlier those additional 4-6 points/game would have be season changers.

- his ball placement when passing is AS GOOD as it gets (even behind the back)

- he will out-pivot ANY defender in America. His will power to do so is amazing. This wasn’t always the case, he used to give up too soon most of the time but I think he is finally figured out that if he keeps doing it, eventually, the defender will giive-in.

the key will be what happens now that the secret is out, now they will be scouting Paul and what the passing he did to assist others for good looks.

That's fine, let them key on Paul so it opens it up for others. I think he's wily enough to get the ball to the open man. Let's just hope Pike continues to let the offense run through PM instead of others for the majority of the time.
As I posted elsewhere, I don't believe this metamorphosis of PM's game just clicked 2 games ago. I really believe he and Pike had a discussion about him being more assertive.

^This. Although I do worry about a secondary defender swiping the ball from his blind side, if they gamble on that and miss, Paul will make them pay, likely leading to an easy 2 or an open 3.

It's as simple as he doesn't stand at the top of the key for 20 seconds dribbling and then shooting a contested stepback 3 every possession. That's 90% of our offense for the last two years.
Geo should take notes. It’s a hard way to play basketball that way.

PM is our PG.

These last two games were big for Paul considering he had (still has) a higher turnover percentage than Young did last year and slightly less turnovers per 100.

He was turning it over way too much all year without enough overall production.

Hopefully he cuts down on those and keeps scoring efficiently. Still a wait and see for me given Izzos pre game comments about not necessarily keying in on RU paul/clifff pnr. I bet he looks at that differently now haha.

Let’s see how the upcoming coaches approach this.
