Not having Mulcahey at the foul line every possession against a 2:3 zone. Anyone else there is basically asking for a turnover.

Feeding Cliff in the low post - its an automatic turnover.

Both of these things happened down the stretch and both cost us possessions and the game.

Incredibly stupid to ever have Cliff try to post up when the game is on the line. Just so stupid.

Mind numbingly stupid.

Reiber was in for Cliff at the end of the game today.

Minnesota did a good job of not allowing the pass to the foul line with their zone D

Cliff missed that hook at 6:20 left, and had a defensive board at 5:52 left... and then doesn't show up in the play by play again.
Ok, yeah. That was it.
Thanks. I was thinking it was around the 4-5 min mark. I just couldn't understand what on Earth was going on and was yelling "pass it back out!" as soon as Cliff got it because you knew it was a turnover if he shot it.
Just shows how team doesnt value possessions late in games.

He wasnt in the last 5 min give or take so most would say he didn't play down the stretch

The strange thing is we went to Cliff more today than we have in games where he is playing well. No need to force it to him in the post when he is having a poor game scoring

My frustration was Geo was lights out on fire and then there was a timeout called. After that timeout is where the ball was passed to Cliff in the post. If I was Pike, ride Geo some more, Cliff needs to develop his shot. Going to Cliff in the low post is a low percentage play and most times a turnover.

Look guys - they had a kid who literally couldn’t miss from 3 including a number of fully contested 3s along with a bank shot. It’s always easy to look back and point things out, but had we not lost to Lafayette and blown an 18 point lead to UMass this loss would just be one of those games where you tip your cap and move on.

There is no excuse for losing to a depleted Minnesota squad.Rutgers loss even with Baker and Harper scoring 40 points . The lack of scoring from the rest of the team has been a ongoing problem .

Mulcahy leaving Luke Loewe open to double a Big on the perimeter. Loewe hits the wide open shot to put Minnesota up 1. The game winning shot.

I hear you - but how many times have we seen 13-14 seeds upset major conference teams on a neutral floor because on that given day - someone just couldn’t miss from 3 point range. Willis made 8 threes in this game. Before yesterday he had 34 threes total for the rest of the season - 15 other games. Think about that for a minute. It means on average before this game he made slightly more than 2 per game. It wasn’t that he was wide open. He made them mostly with a man in his face. The kid was in the zone. If he makes 5 instead of 8 - he still has a great game - but we win pretty comfortably (no foul shots at the end for them).

We didn't score for 6 minutes
Well, I am talking about the play that put Minnesota up 1 with 15 seconds left. You don't leave a shooter on the perimeter to double a Big on the perimeter.

I am not blaming PM for the loss, just a mistake on a key possession.

Agree..and there was bad D by Cliff leading to a layup inside a couple possession earlier..our D wasnt good yesterday

The D by i think Caleb on the last possession leading to a 3 before half was atrocious and we had fouls to give

This loss comes down to 2 things. 1)Not getting deep into Minnesotas bench,7 scholarship athletes available for the game. And 2)not attacking the rim, no movement on the offensive side of the floor.
This game should have been played from 15 feet in with movement on the offensive side of the floor. Force the Minnesota team to play defense Chase cutters fight through screens and possibly get into foul trouble. Instead Rutgers is stagnant on offense deciding to play from 3 point line and out and starting the offense from 30+ feet out. I don’t think I saw RHJ move more than 15 feet on the offensive side of the floor more than 3 times. He had mismatches all night where he could have taken over the game from the inside.

I would have liked to see two things.

1. Just 1 second less on the shot clock for Minny. They must have buried at least 5 or 6 shots at the buzzer. Luck?
2. I would have loved to have Reiber and Cliff in together on the final play. Minny would have collapsed on them both and even if they didn’t pass to either one, you’d have a wide open look.
Of course, 1 is not possible but 2 would have shocked the hell out of them.

As to mulcahy in the zone op may have missed the fact that Minny was defending that down the stretch by packing things in. That is largely why we had 6 straight uncontested 3’s in the time. Unfortunately we missed them all. Make one we have a good chance to close it out make 2 the game is probably over.

Yep. Other teams have been watching the film. They know Paul wants to get to
the middle of the lane and work from there

My take on this game:

1. With Minnesota having a short bench, we should have been full court pressing the entire game (take their legs out for the last 5 minutes each half).

2. The last 4 minutes of the game, we were not moving the ball quickly enough and then shot the ball from the outside too quickly (without having someone near the basket for an offensive rebound).

3. I thought we should have someone at the foul line (Big Man or Mulcahey), when Minnesota was in a zone defense.

4. Last Shot: I would rather have seen a set play for an outside jumper and have everyone else crash the boards for a rebound/put back.
