Just a general question, where have you been in recent years in regards to Iowa.....you also predicted RU would lose to Maryland yesterday.

Iowa is an offensive team that does not play consistent defense. The 3 point line will be available, driving lanes open....someone on Iowa has to box out Cliff, or he's going to have 3 to 5 dunks.....

If RU moves the ball the way they have in recent weeks, there should be wide open looks most of the night......players like Mulcahy should feast on Iowa.....

I would be shocked in RU doesn't get into the mid 70s to 80s....
Yep I thought maryland would win . I was saying that the extra day doesn’t matter

I had iowa in the sweet 16 last year . Rutgers and all our fans know we should have hired mcaffery years ago when we had a chance.
Rutgers wins Wednesday

Paul more confident with shooting can help. Great if he can go for another 15+. So if Ron and Geo are 42pts+ Paul 14 and Cliff 12 that’s 68. Need rest of the team to get 7+ for. 75+ which is what will be needed to beat Iowa

Rutgers should play some zone defense which allowed Minnesota to make a late rush along with a barrage of 3 pointers. They also should be prepared for a trapping defense which means quick passing and not alot of dribbling which will cause turnovers.

It's surprising Minnesota came back with success playing zone against a team like Iowa

Fran is an above average coach who is completely focused on all offense....when Iowa has to get stops against similar talent or better talent, they rarely do.....

I was going to say what hawk says about Iowa defensively. They aren’t going to scheme up on defense and double Harper ; that’s not their game. Only thing they may do is go to zone to get us out of rythym or trap us to speed the game up. They will let Ron get 40. They are about offense first second and third.

Iowa has used a 3/4 court soft press against us, and it has been pretty effective. I would anticipate this as their strategy to offset their weak half court defense.

it may work out like that, but I hate having Harper guard the other team’s best player. Him in foul trouble would be very bad
I hear you, but I just think Murray might be too tall and rangy for Caleb in the paint. Harper is much stronger in his base and has a long wingspan, so I feel like he would do a better job than Caleb.

But I’m not averse to mixing things up to minimize Ron’s fouls.

When they're in man D, I like two match-ups for us: Cliff vs. Rebraca and whoever Toussaint is guarding since we'll have height. I think Cliff has a big game. I like RU.

Toussaint has given us trouble in the past. He’s their best on ball defender.

The good news is Bohannon has to guard someone. The last time we played them it didn’t matter - couldn’t take advantage. We passed the ball around the perimeter and chucked up bricks from 3 the whole game (28 attempts). And Wiescamp couldn’t miss. Fortunately he’s gone.

I think this will be a Mag game. I’d think Mag may be the best guy to guard Murray.

we need to make whoever Bohannon guards (or attempts to guard) pay.

I’d love to think the way Iowa defends we could see 2 players score 15+ not named Ron or Geo or Gio.

Top scorers vs. Iowa in the last 5 meetings (11 or more points):

29 - Harper (1/22/20)
27 - Harper (3/2/19)

17 - Yeboah (1/22/20)
17 - Young (1/2/21)
16 - Harper (2/16/19)
13 - Baker (2/16/19)

13 - Baker (1/2/21)
13 - Harper (1/2/21)
11 - McConnell (3/2/19)
11 - Baker (2/10/21)

Overall performance in those games:
.457 FG% (28.8/63 per game).... above average of .438 in those years
.520 2P% (20.8/40 per game).... above average of .498
.347 3P% (8/23 per game).... above average of .312
.578 FT% (9.6/16.6 per game)... below average of .639
55 ORB (11.0/g)... above average of 10.0
103 DRB (20.6/g)... below average of 25.4
158 TRB (31.6/g)... below average of 35.4
89 Ast (17.8/g)... above average of 12.9

49 TOV (9.8/g)... below average of 11.9
107 PF (21.4/g)... above average of 17.6

Iowa's had Garza/Wieskamp for every one of those prior 5 meetings, though, so tough to compare the past 5 games to what we'll see.

RAC experts, give us an attendance estimate for Wednesday
With a few tix still available for sale, and due to the late start and Covid protocols, a crowd in the neighborhood of 7,000 is expected.

I expect the student section to be rockin' and full to capacity. Students who could not attend games during the break are itching to get back to the RAC. Also, students prefer later start times, unlike the general public.

Purdue is a high scoring team that we were able to defend and keep well below their average. Have to do the same against Iowa.

I hope pike realizes what worked vs Maryland.

Russell was giving geo fits and in the second half we took geo off the ball a lot and Russell couldn't rec havoc.

The best way to make a guy whos a pest on the ball useless is to make him stand in the corner

Well in any case we need Harper, Geo & Gio to have big games.
Agree. I’m not even saying Geo has to have a monster game offensively (would be nice though) he just has to have a better, more solid game. I know he has done other things to contribute, but his last three games have been subpar offensively.

Keegan Murray and Jordan Bohanon. And Iowa plays uptempo.
We should try to play even faster than they are used to.. at least at first. If we put the whole game on a strategy of slowing them down.. which, in turn, keeps us off the offensive boards and in a half-court offense on every possession.. I think we lose based purely on lack of energy on offense.

I'd love to make Iowa worry about getting back on D... playing fast even off their made baskets... because they shoot well.

Either way, we have to get all the defensive boards... no second-chance points for them.

I am ready to see another “Nebraska type beat down”. Would be great to see it Wednesday against Iowa. Go up big and hold it to the end!! A total 40 minute effort.

Can you give me a brake, I know it’s Geo and have actually thought about when addressing him.
I had a brain cramp.
What do you think of my summation?😊

Zap- As an Italian American, I too always default to the Italian spelling. It's just force of habit to spell it like my Uncle Gio. No offense Geo!

..quoted below
Let's grade my earlier post:

"If we put the whole game on a strategy of slowing them down.. which, in turn, keeps us off the offensive boards and in a half-court offense on every possession.. I think we lose based purely on lack of energy on offense."

Ummm.. WRONG... and CORRECT too.. their shooting pct was way lower than we could have expected. Exceptional job on D plus a little luck. But we never really pushed a transition offense.

"I'd love to make Iowa worry about getting back on D... playing fast even off their made baskets... because they shoot well.
Either way, we have to get all the defensive boards... no second-chance points for them."

CORRECT: We beat them on the boards and they only had 9 offensive boards.. many of those resulted in no points.

But.. overall... WRONG.. no way I thought we could win this focussing on defense mostly and shooting poorly ourselves.
