There will be attrition…. SpringWith a Freshman class of 7 OLmen and 4 OL transfers, RU will have 27 OLmen on scholarship this year. Perhaps a few don't count due to the free Covid year, but even so that's about 30% of the allowable 85.What am I not understanding??
There will be a lot of guys told they will never see the field here and if they want to see playing time it may be time to look elsewhere. With a Freshman class of 7 OLmen and 4 OL transfers, RU will have 27 OLmen on scholarship this year. You don’t know that Greg makes the rules? With a Freshman class of 7 OLmen and 4 OL transfers, RU will have 27 OLmen on scholarship this year. Perhaps a few don't count due to the free Covid year, but even so that's about 30% of the allowable 85.What am I not understanding??
Free COVID year not counting against scholarships was only for 2021 hence the term "super senior".With a Freshman class of 7 OLmen and 4 OL transfers, RU will have 27 OLmen on scholarship this year. Those 8-10 are the ones who don’t have “shocking power.”You have to expect at least 8-10 to transfer out by the spring and with 5 or 6 of those OLs.
Having 23-24 O line on the roster would be fine as many in the B1G and other Power 5 teams carry over 20 . I agree that perhaps for this season we may attempt to move 2-3 back to the D until we find success through recruiting HS or the portal for Defensive line. The hardest to recruit. Except if your Alabama, Georgia , Ohio State. Etc. but fear not Schiano will figure that out too.We just scored the biggest transfer haul in Rutgers history, and we’re doing threads like this? Come on guys…
1) Many top tier teams have 20 (or even more) on roster
2) Covid likely does grant more
3) Multiple will move to DLine, where we have room, and players like Ireland Brown were recruited for D
4) Some attrition
Schiano knows what he’s doing. Lines win championships, especially in the Big 10. And it’s the hardest to get right/develop. Personally, I think his strategy’s brilliant, and only way Rutgers can reach the pinnacles we all aspire to see.
With Schiano’s great track record of sending OL & DL to the NFL, we could become a landing spot for the line. Overnight, we have a top OL, and mentors for an amazing recruiting class. Schiano just took our team’s biggest weakness and made it potentially our greatest strengh in just 1 recruit/transfer cycle. Let’s focus on that, instead of scholarship numbers, which the staff undoubtedly have a plan for. …Especially when recruits/players frequent our forum.
