OT: Yellowstone Returns Tonight

Two hour premiere on Paramount Network at 8:00. I know John Dutton is the main character, but I like Rip. Hope this isn’t the final season. Kevin Costner is getting a little long in the tooth. The scenery is beautiful on the show.

mmm.. I don't know... he surprised me. If you haven't seen season one give it a shot. A woman playing his daughter is a rather harsh personality and I just cannot stand her or her performance.. its more than a bit much.. but people seem to like that outlandish stuff... overall I liked it.

My guess is that it was the skinheads led by Malcolm Beck (played by the guy who was in band of brothers). I know he was shot but they left him to bleed out in the field. Maybe he survived.

WPK, you don’t need a subscription service to watch Yellowstone. It is on Paramount. You do need one for 1883 which is on Paramount Plus.

You do have to wonder if the creator Taylor Sheridan is spreading himself a little thin. The 6666 Ranch is another spinoff which debuts next year.

Yes, you could say she is over the top lol. Oddly, it seems she is mellowing slightly with Rip and the stray kid around.

Last night episode had about 10 good minutes in it. The rest was just previews for the spin-offs. I feel like a lot of this season has been that. It’s getting annoying. *Spoilers* I hope they don’t stretch Jamie’s real dad vs the Duttons till next season. I wanna see revenge this season.

Perhaps not the right thread to add more show recommendations.. but I recently watched the first episodes of two dystopian future shows... on Netflix "Sweet Tooth".. not giving much away to say kids start being born as "hybrids" with animal features.. kinda "out there".. and HBO MAX has "Station Eleven".. from a novel about a virus that kills most people and destroys the modern world as we know it. Both seem interesting but we shall see if they can keep it up.

Just watched the 2nd free episode tonight. Lovin' these western shows. Just introduced billy bob and a short tom Hanks appearance.

Ystone wasn't great. Better be big E10 for a short 10 episode season. I sense a rif between Rip and Beth.

Kind of a dud of a season finale. Color me disappointed.

Beth should have shot Jamie in the head at "the train station". She said that she would kill him. Would have given the show some punch to get rid of him. Kinda makes the need to get married to Rip on the drop of the hat silly; if she wasn't going to kill Jamie.

Also, no real cliffhanger except for Jamie's "I saw the end of us" statement. End of him and Monica or the end of the Duttons?

And no real enemy on the horizon, except an old lady that replaced Sawyer from "Lost".

I'm not going to be counting the days until next season.

That being said- I gave into non-stop promotion of the "1883" show and I just finished episode 3. If you like the western genre then you will be blown away by the first 3 episodes of 1883. Beautifully written and shot. I'm surprised by how good an actor Faith Hill is. Tim McGraw is good but he just acts stoic behind a dirty beard. The blond daughter, who narrates each episode, is obviously a smoke show. Well worth the watch!

The Walking Dead, part two section of the sort of series finale, starts tonight on AMC. Since there is going to be a Daryl and Carol continuation, I don’t know why they just don’t have them use the main show name instead of Daryl and Carol Hike The Appalachian Trail.

This may help with your westerns distaste..

I once saw an interview with Robert Duvall about some western he was doing.. I think it was Open Range with Kevin Costner (to close the Yellowstone loop) and he basically related westerns with mob films like the Godfather. He said in real life.. you have all this "authority" all around you.. something happens, you call the cops, the government.. but in the old west, like in the mob.. you cannot do that... you have to rely on yourselves. You make the rules, accept or fight the rules. \

It is interesting to see people put in those positions. And people like to visit those worlds.. where they are more in control.. despite the danger.. in their entertainment.

Same thing goes for so many forms of entertainment.. zombie films, war films, "reality" show competitions... SPORTS is related... while there is authority it is visible and obvious.. like a sheriff in a western town.. it has its limits.. the outcome is mostly up to the people.

Season 5 premiered last night. I thought it was ok. Kinda slow for a premier IMO. I’m getting tired of the whole Jamie vs the family thing. Sadly see a lot more of that for this season the way things looked last night.
