Dose anybody truly believe that Moses Walker and Anthony Johnson will play over Mohahed Toure,
Tyreem Powell and
Khayri Banton??? I saw a article on the 2 freshman today.

Outside of Toure, I think all our linebackers are lucky to be 225.
Not big enough to be inside run stoppers in the B1G

From what I’ve read and heard, Toure will be at DE next year. I think Powell will be one LB, we could possibly have a transfer start, Maybe Walker will be in the mix as a freshman. From what I’ve heard Johnson could end up on the. DL. He is a big kid.

The game today is completely different. The days of the the 240 lbs LB are over. We need super athletic 220 lbs LBs who can run. That is why Walker is considered a 4* player. He can play in space.

Disagree, you need a 240 pounder who can run
Unfortunately the vast majority of 240lbs LBs can not run well enough. Forget the weight thing, it’s about explosive athletes that can hit and run. Walker is all that.

MLB in a 4-3 gets beat-up bad. They better have some bulk. Drop the wrong 10 pounds and start getting decleated.

Of course ideally you would like a MLB like Penn St's Micah Parsons who was 248 at PSU and ran 4.39 @ combine. Now he's headed to be NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive MVP. His first college start was vs Rutgers

You didn't hear that about Johnson from anyone but some posters on this forum. While Johnson is a good sized linebacker, on the DL he would just be another undersized player of the type that has plagued RU since joining the B1G

Michigan depth chart lists Mike at 226 and Will at 225 backed up by 229 and 227.
Michigan's Will is often a second inside MLB (with 2 more edge players).

Josh Ross is good player but hurt a lot. He missed all last season and was knocked out of the Rutgers game - one of their excuses for playing a close game

I think plague goes too far. We had some wildly talented undersized DL.

I don't know if Conti was moved to FB but I was impressed with him last spring game. He has the instincts of a good LB.

I think both Walker and Johnson are very likely to play ST from game 1, and will compete for LB playing time. LB playing time in 2022 will depend on what LB (or not) we get from the portal.

The 2 starting DE’s for Michigan weigh 261 and 250 lbs. Johnson weighs 247 already.

Need to keep recruiting next year 3 LBer’s … 4 DT/DL…1 TE…3 WR ..3 DB’s… 2 QB ‘s and then whatever we need as additional depth.

I'd prefer 2 TEs and one QB, with the proviso of never turning down a 4 star, whatever position he plays.

What we lacked in LB play was speed, especially noticeable from the ends out, coverage on TE's and our inability to get proper drops when we ran two deep, I suspect the first place you will see Moses Walker will be in a 3rd down package, he can really run.

RU is out trying to get another LB. Powell is a definite starter. That gives Walker and Johnson some time to develop. Banton was hurt much of last year which is why he redshirted I think. If they don't get a LB from the portal, that puts pressure on the staff to develop someone quickly.
I think Walker starts before the end of the season.

Wasn't he a prime recruit out of NJ ?
Did we offer ?

Yes - Bill Busch recruited him (now at LSU) and Schiano recruited him for Ohio St
He was a highly recruited 4* but after eight starts he became a back-up.
When starter who replaced him was injured, another back-up became the starter
He tore his labrum in first game this season, so he has 2 years left and will be a grad transfer
ND has a bunch of top LB recruits coming in.

So you are suggesting that Rivals and 247 should determine Schiano's recruiting board?

I remember one of the first statements made by Schiano 1.0 was "We recruit with our eyes, not with our ears." I very much doubt he has changed that philosophy.

Hope we have a chance with him.
Michigan St. has already picked 2 of the top LBs in the Transfer Portal for next season.
Also not sure where we stand with the LB Arku out of Syracuse or the 2 LB’s in the Portal from Maryland.

Regarding Powell : He is a B1G guy if I’m remembering him during the season . Probably at least 225 but with his frame he can easily get to 245-250 perhaps. He’s also tall and can run.

I don’t think Powell is 220, good for drops and hook zones, not good for stopping inside zone runs
Yeah I think ideally they all have to be fast, strong and able to tackle well first and foremost. The Sam and the Mike probably need a little more size in our conference. Then depending on who we match up against the Will can be smaller and able to cover or a bigger run stopper. These guys will all add 5-10 by September. We saw Fogg and O3 add good weight each year.
