We lost by 1 (i think 1) to UConn when they had Ben Gordon, Emeka Okafor and Charlie Villanueva

That was an incredible game and I thought we had them. I specifically remember how well Sean Axani did on Okafor who was unstoppable that year.

I have no such expectations for a similar performance tomorrow.

Marcus Camby didn’t play though. When they restarted the game in Philly before the A-10 tournament he played.

Was UMass #1 when we were beating them at the half before someone started a sit-in that caused the game to get postponed?
played very well in that first half, never got to see the second, but, it wound up not close, I think

first game I ever brought my young daughter to, she got an education in what a protest looks like, that day

I remember that Missouri game being a close game throughout but IIRC, Mizzou was the second #1 team that RU faced on the road that season. I think RU opened the season up at the Carrier Dome when SU was ranked #1 though the result wasn't as close.

The Rutgers women's bball team has defeated the #1 team on several occasions. Games I can recall included wins over #1 UConn (at least once), PSU, ND, LSU, Duke (to get to the FF), and I believe once over Tennessee. And as many will recall, RU was on the verge of defeating two #1 teams in consecutive games, when it knocked UConn out of the #1 position and then went down to Knoxville to take on the new #1. But it's win over Tennessee that night was denied by the infamous "clockgate" where the game stopped, rather than expire with a one point RU win. The extra seconds allowed time for RU to commit a foul and the Vol player converted both shots to give a victory to Tennessee.

Damn, that seems wrong somehow.

I remember once in MLB when a game was stopped for weather, and by the time it was resumed months later, the two teams had made a trade with each other. So players played for both teams in the same game. Late seventies, maybe...

Loved that team and was a great game - fun rewatching a bit of it. Douby not fouling, Herve not getting the call in the first half when he got the defender in the air, who clearly fouled him. Both teams were horrible from the line, though. Thought that was Gary's best, most athletic team and if we had just closed the season better, maybe we make the tourney instead of going on that magical NIT run.

This was as close as we have ever gotten to beating No. 1 on the road...

Interesting that RU went into that game at only 7-9 and 4-3 in the A10 (tied for 4th place) even though we had a very talented team with Duncan, Hughes, Savage, Lumpkin, Carter, etc. We won two games in the NIT that year and finished at 18-17.

Reminds me a little of this year’s team, seemingly under-achieving. Hopefully we have as good a showing against #1 tomorrow night.

Rutgers has beaten Purdue 3 straight times so not counting us out just yet. Sometimes the veteran players just see the name on the Jersey and get confident since they’re used to beating them

Axani was such an under-rated workhorse of a player. Sure could use someone like him this year.

Who was the opponent when Douby missed a 3 at the end of the game from the left corner which would have won us the game at the RAC?

For some reason, I thought it was UConn when they were maybe the #2 team in the nation?

Am I right?

Please remind me.

Thanks

There has also been a time when teams traded players in between a double header. So again, players played for both teams.

Syracuse in 2005. That was a brutal loss. We were up by 18 points at halftime...

A year later, we suffered another heartbreaking loss at Syracuse...

The final score was the same for both games: Syracuse 86, Rutgers 84.

Thanks for reminding me about that Tennessee game. It just caused an instant case of severe agita!

in 94, we led # 1 UMass by 2 (31-29 I think) at half...Kobo started the game with a dunk. Game ended a few weeks later in an empty Palestra...RU wasn't good that year.

And, vs UConn under Waters....RU stayed close, but not sure felt RU would win....lost by 1...NIT team

Sorry for derailing. I thought about this and realized that what I am remembering was actually in the NBA. I think the New Jersey Nets and Sixers made the trade...

Good luck against Purdue...

Magical ?? It was the NIT. The dump I took today was more magical than that run

We beat Syracuse when they finished the season number 1 (which is really all that matters)
